Started tinkering with the Ruck. Removed plastic floorboards and installed an NCY peg kit. Few different colours going on while I piece it together. I’ll paint it all when I’m done modding or close to it. Slow build so 2-3 years away most likely.

Edit: taken with a potato but holy did imgflip kill the resolution of that pic.

Got some new boots thrown on and an alignment done on Friday. It was time to get rid of the near bald 8 year old Michelin Pilots that came with the car

Finally home after a long, long road trip. Pulled the Audi coupe apart to figure out how much wiring I burned up. So far, everything the multimeter can tell me suggests I got off pretty lucky. Looks like the starter to battery post wire, and alternator to battery post wire are the only two that were damaged.

It can't be that easy...

Tomorrow night, once I've got replacements, should be interesting. :P

Haha yes it is! Original motor and trans too. I bought it for parts as it was a good deal, but it runs perfect so decided to keep it.
Edit: it drove from Abbotsford to Richmond Monday to Friday for ten years+

Picked up a flatdeck trailer and noticed my truck sags a bit when it's loaded up, so I decided to add some airbags to level things out. I'll install a Viair compressor and 5 gallon tank to adjust it from the cab and have OBA, maybe get air horns.

Got rid of that old ugly stock radio today. It is hot working under 32deg.
Also installed the dash cam, rearview camera, voltage meter, a bunch of USB chargers.

...Getting caught up.

Audi is now repaired. Turns out I only burned up two main power wires in the engine bay. Got off lucky on this one. Of course, it's been sitting for a couple of years now, and one of the hydraulic lifters is tapping. Sigh. It's gone back into storage for a couple of months, but I'll run it to Tofino and back when it comes out and see if it clears up. If not, twenty lifters are going to get replaced, at $360usd

Rally Bug wasn't happy with someone else getting all the attention, so it decided to start having some odd ignition issues while down in Colorado. When I basically "powered through" to finish the CCA's Hagerty Silver Summit, it decided that it too would have a light engine fire to get my attention. Burned up the rear apron, the Wideband wiring harness, a bunch of rubber seals (fender beading, engine bay seals). After dousing the 8" flames, we limped it the final hour to the finish, and then loaded it up on the trailer.

Since returning home it's got all new ignition components, I've setup the computer controlled spark timing and replaced all the burned up rubber. Still need to repaint the apron though.

Of course, damned thing hard-starts when cold...which it was doing before all the new ignition bits...so I need to figure out what the real problem actually is.

So it’s not what I’ve done to my car lately, but rather what I’m trying to do. The RS is a great car, but I’d like it to be more multi fiction for my lifestyle. I’d like to lift the RS for all year round fun and enjoyment (to which my track coils can easily be swapped over in an afternoon before an event). The stock ground clearance of my focus is 4.3”, to compare the g.c of a stock Subaru crosstrek is 8.7”

There is a company called Rebel Devil Customs who have developed a 3” lift kit for the focus SE, and they’ve said the ST/RS kit is in developement, though when I’ve emailed with a few questions I’ve got no response. There are a few kits out for subaru’s and Mitsubishi that are long travel coils that can raise the car ~1” over stock. Ive emailed lots of these companies to see whether they have kits for my RS or can adapt others to suit from the ST or likewise

- Feal max travel 441, do not recommend on the RS for rally cross as it’s not an inverted shock and will bend under hard lateral load
- ksport do not make their gravel kit for the RS
- d2racing does not make their rally kit for the RS
- bilstein does not make a kit for the RS
- Tein does not make a rally setup for the RS

I emailed team O’Neil to see what setup they’re using but have not yet received a response. XYZ in austrailia and DMS racing should be able to build me a kit, but prices will be around $6000usd which is way more than I will spend for just a weekend warrior.

There are 30mm strut spacer kits available for the oem shocks and struts, but the oem specs are all wrong for dirt, and extra travel would definitely be needed.

If you swap on the fiesta ST front calipers onto the RS and modify the rear parking brake cable you can fit standard 15x7 rally wheels. The very common 205/65r15 gravel tire is only 0.06% different size than my oem tire so clearance shouldn’t be any issue.

If anyone has thoughts or suggestions im all ears

So I'd want to know exactly what the difference is between the SE and the RS...why can't you make the Rebel Devil Custom's kit work? Basically you need find out where the parts start changing...

Are the control arms the same?
CV shafts?
Steering knuckle?
Ball joints / etc.

www.car-part.ca will help you figure out which bits cross over between models.

I'd look at swapping out the entire strut assembly. Have a track setup, and a lifted setup where you are unbolting the knuckle from the control arm and removing the entire assembly, brakes and all. To do it really right, you're going to need dry-break fittings on the brake lines. Budget $1k usd for all four corners just in fittings.

Realistically though, I think you really need to think about how you use the car, how you will use the car and how much money you're honestly willing to invest in a "look".

You might try Hotbits to see if they have anything. HotBits Canada Sports Suspensions

The RS has different rear suspension of course from the AWD but it is almost the same. Different spring seat design and different lower control arm (due to different shock length I believe). The RDC lift kit comes with springs, shocks, strut spacers, f/r lower control arms, f/r endlinks, camber/toe arms etc etc. It’s a pretty full kit. What I’ll need to know is exactly what springs and shocks they’re using with their extended LCA’s and whether they’re just an oem shock from another model, and whether I can replace that with a seperate inverted shock body (if so then I can piece most of the kit together separately).

I’d only be willing to go this route fully if I can get a second car I can also keep more tarmac dedicated vehicle.

Also, dry break brake lines?!?! I’ve never heard of such witchcraft. I guess it’s nkt much of a stretch from any other hydraulic dry fitting

Yep, just a dry break fitting in -3an or -4an sizing. Allows you to disconnect and reconnect lines without a need to re-bleed. Damned expensive, but useful!

lol. I actually got back ordered on three of those for my next project. In hindsight, it might have been a good thing, you need a LOT of pressure to raise the car on them.

I looked into them last night out of curiosity, most teams look to have high pressure air cylinders (welding gas style) and on the top of each jack says “20bar max” which is just shy of 300psi. I was assuming the system would run on a standard shop size compressor line which is around 120psi. Guess that’s why only the top tier of racers have them.

Let’s be real though, no better way to show off in the pits. You’d be the envy of everyone

Simple lessons on why you don't fill body cavities with foam, underneath a vent that is sealed with a piece of rubber rope. Sadly, the German engineers at Volkswagen didn't know this in the 70's...

Keep cutting until you see no rust...not done yet!

You're going to need some holes from the inside to remove the foam...

I think we're almost there. Hey, the car is much lighter now!

Should probably check the other side...

Fun Saturday afternoon :P
