As mentioned in the "Official Latest Pic of My Ride" thread, guess who finally put on new suspension bits? This guy!

Due to lack of space, we only put on Bilstein B8 struts and shocks. But I'm happy to report that the wheel no longer hops or shakes violently, bumps aren't jarring, and it rides pretty nice. Unfortunately autox is full, otherwise I'd give it a test.

Shoutout to 325isMSPORT for the last minute part runs and making sure i don't kill myself and ACCL teaching me how to do the work (and mostly doing all the work tbh).

Laid out suspension bits according to geometry

The damn sway bar links couldn't come loose. It was spinning the joint and we didn't have enough space to counter spin. Ended up taking off the caliper, all the sensors and lines, and then finally the whole strut, spring and sway bars out.

Left: dusty regular old rear shock absorber, still has some damping
Right: blown. position on car: rear left

Well... that's not supposed to happen. This is front right strut.

Doing the rears was annoying. I got lazy and just jacked up the left rear corner, but forgot it would be easier to just use the jack to support the trailing arm. Ended up having to deadlift the rear wheel + RTA + other bits. That's was ridiculously heavy.

Tried the $20 Chinese LED headlights (left) and it seems not much different from the stock Halogen + projector. So I bought this $65 kit (right) that says the LED are from Samsung, 360deg, and 32W, better design bla bla bla

I get to say it is so much better, it is 5000k and the brightness is close to the Toyota LED headlights on my Alphard. Good that my Mazda 5 has power adjustable headlight from the dash, so it won't blind the other drivers

Also to keep this on track. Finally washed, clay bar’d and waxed the car. Was a good 4 hours. Was hard to get all the rubber scuffs off from the track. Also helped my bro haul some stuff with the roof rack

Did WP and T-Stat on friend's e46, did Hawk HP + on my car. Still need FCA, FCAB, tie rods, and a brake flush and I'll be track ready.

I was hoping to finally finish my injector bolt repair (long story short the POS broke in the head and a shop couldn't fix it without pulling the head) and get my Jeep back on the road, but after finishing up the originally borked injector I found out the shop snapped another bolt in the block and removed the top half of the threads from all the others without bothering to tell me. On the plus side doing the conversion to threaded inserts without a bolt in the way is pretty easy since the aluminum head is so soft, but I was unable to keep the bits from wandering on the newly discovered broken bolt so it's a bit more offset than I'd like but we'll see what happens. There seems to be a bit of wiggle room around the bolt hole as it didn't break through into anything, but I only went as deep as I had to for the insert to fit. I managed to get the drivers side loosely assembled before I ran out of time, hopefully I can finish the passenger ide tomorrow.

The other lovely surprise from the shop is they loosened a bracket and undid my CCV vent hose without clamping it back on to the CCV after, and then apparently ran the engine for some reason (from what I can tell just on the passenger cylinders somehow). So now I have a mess of oil and diesel on the passenger side of the engine, and I have to find another clamp for the CCV hose. I know labour is charged hourly, but paying $200 (plus another $100 to get the Jeep home) just to have someone make things worse reminds me of why I hate dealing with shops.

Yah! I did a bunch of shit to their car already.
- replaced stock stock stero with a double din Clarion unit
- added backup camera

It's all done with their money and my time. The wife's dad was the one who wanted all this tech stuff updated. I was able to convince him the dinner plates needed to go too. Next up is old mark Levison speakers. The bass is causing a buzzing noise so i gotta reglue the foam things together.

Got home on Thursday night to a bunch of new packages inside the front door.

Friday I built up the long block, and Saturday I installed it into the car. Takes a lot longer to build it up, as you have to check and re-check everything. Deck height, end play, valve train geometry...not to mention cleaning, drying and relubricating everything before it goes into the motor.

Almost had to rebuild it again, didn't get the oil lines and cooler cleaned out enough from the failure. Oil in the sump and tank was full of brass after running it for less than a minute. Fortunately it seems that my filter was catching everything that was visible at least. The oil was clean after the filter and into the motor, but the scavange & pressure stage to the filter were not. Pulled and flushed all the lines, cooler and tank a second time, and then setup a second filter to filter the oil before it returns to the tank.

Back seat is just a little busy...

Drove quite nicely to the lake and back yesterday though!
