tried to change the oil.... but the drain bolt seized so :fuckthatshit:

MindBomber 05-01-2012 07:03 PM

The drain bolt seized, that's different. Hopefully someone didn't overtighten it and cross thread it on.

I washed her today.

spoon.ek9 05-01-2012 07:17 PM

finally took the time to install some slotted rotors that used to be on my EK onto my EF. I also wire-wheeled the rusted calipers, cleaned them off, then painted them flat black :D

Recon604 05-01-2012 07:25 PM

washed my car, next week is gonna all be sunny!!

I changed it myself last time... torqued to spec
so I guess it's not really seized but just stuck?

Last night I tuned up the old girl 73' International scout did some bakers down the alleyway with her (not bad for a near 40 year old machine) proptly pulled her into the shop put her on stands and pulled all the front suspension and axle out.
Tonight I put the new front axle in (for thos in the know a 1 ton d60 with goodies) with new links coils and steering components. All to prep for 40" boggers to follow later this week.

OTG-ZR2 05-01-2012 09:53 PM

What kinda goodies?

Phil@rise 05-01-2012 10:04 PM

High steer and crossover with a custom shortened drop pitman arm. 35 spline chromoly shafts both inner and outter. 4:11 gears and a detriot locker (original was 3:55's). Progressive rate Iron horse coils (original was leafs). 1410 double cardon cv shaft and custom radius arms. Shes got a fancy front end now :D.

The pixels on my gauges have been disappearing since I bought the car 9 years ago and dealership wants $1500 to replace the gauges. I can't tell how many km I have, what light bulb is out, or coolant level, etc. Last week I discovered I can buy the ribbon on Ebay 5 for $15 and try to fix it myself :fullofwin:. So I spent 6 hours taking the gauges apart to replace the ribbon and I got almost all the pixels back except for 2 lines on the trip odometer.

Old ribbon and 4 new ones

UPDATE
The 2 missing lines on the trip odometer was bugging me so I did it again and found out why those 2 lines was missing. There was a rip on 2 lines on the ribbon so I install a new ribbon in the gauges again.

Dreaded 5 series pixel death.

I sent my OBC to a guy on eBay in Long Beach, CA for repair. It cost me $1xx with lifetime warranty. I tried to fix it with one of the strips but I failed hard.

Did you shake it and punched it after you hooked it back up to the car? Cause I thought I failed too until I did that and it worked :joy:

LOL no! The instructions simply weren't clear with the kit I ordered (mind you, E36, not E39 I'm assuming is what you have.) After an hour or two of wasted time, effort, and no more good ribbons, I threw in the towel and sent it off to Long Beach for repair.

almost finished shaving my engine bay, and picked up a trailer!

suprat88h 05-02-2012 03:10 PM

Took my custom Weld RT-S wheels out of their boxes, mounted and balanced them. Next step is getting them on the supra :)

Possibly. The torque required to remove a bolt is higher than that which was initially applied to it, but assuming the drain bolt was torqued to 30ft/lb even that should not be significant. It's very easy to cross thread a bolt into an aluminium oil pan, especially as the car gets older and the threads have sustained a bit of damage through routine oil changes.

I hope it works out and it's just a matter of getting a little more leverage on the bolt!

Installed Rails for Recaros :troll:

Volvo-brickster 05-02-2012 06:07 PM

ive done this before, but you are twisting the correct way right?

depending on the angle of the bolt and you being underneath and at odd angles, you aren't tightening it are you ?

vexor 05-02-2012 06:43 PM

Cleaned up all 4 Brembo calipers and pads

changed over to the summer wheels and tires

fixed and reinstalled my gauges and a-pillar pod

maxxxboost 05-02-2012 07:44 PM

Can you get an oil drain valve for your car? It makes changing oil so much easier.

Phil@rise 05-02-2012 08:09 PM

Did the brakes, oil flush/change and alternator on a JDM Subie Legacy and then back on my Scout built custom tie rod, drag link and fitted the 40's.

I really hope it's just the bolthead getting worn out... so I can't apply as much power onto it anymore... it's kinda stripped so yeah I don't think I should try further unless I have a hex-bolt wrench rather than a ring spanner
