No man, its completely relative.
The new EV's (Model 3 performance) are equally engaging according to most reviewers as your m3.

EV's are faster in a straight line (some might say that's engaging)

Lucid air and Model 3 performance are named one of the best handling cars you can buy (if you care about dynamically engaging)

So you got dynamics and straight line speed out of the way, what else are you left to engage about? The sound? fine but all the cars you mentioned above all sound like ass.

For me as long as its manual, decently tuned for suspension i dont see how can you say its not engaging and/or boring.

I find that bitch ass beetle boring as fuck!
boring to look at, boring to listen to, boring to drive (at my usual speed) so does that make the GT3 beetle a UNengaging car?

When they gonna have a fire sale on 2024 Golf R inventory to make space for the facelift?
I noticed dealers already discounting the new nissan Z by 10K.

Given how badly the z is selling I'm surprised the dealers are still gate keeping them? Either that or they have no stock. They should just fire sale and unload as many as they can at 0% before Nissan goes. I heard used ones are already like $35000 USD, I wouldn't mind one in the 30s range.

Ioniq5 is actually quite a large vehicle, wide and length. It looks small in pics but it's large IRL. Parking with that is a bit harder than hot hatch size. Also, Model 3 seats sucks - have not tried Highland refresh seats but the previous model had that really uncomfortable hump headrest thing. Same with suspension.

The charging issue also rears its head - if you don't have at home charging EVs are no cheaper to run than gas cars IMO, with significantly more hassle.

And I still think that the Golf R still has more personality than a Model 3, as minimal it may be. Plus it can run Apple Carplay/Android Auto lol.

This one is not true in Vancouver:
For normal EV like 15-20kwh/100km, $3/100km at Supercharger (.2/kwh) or $5.5/100km at BC Hydro.
Golf R at 9L/100km on premium, so $15-18/100km

For IDBuzz or Lightning @ 20-25kwh/100km, $5-8/100km.
$18 for a Sienna or $30 for an Odyssey.

North East USA and Toronto supercharging costs are cooked yes.
.6/kwh means it's more expensive to run than M340i on 91.

Level 3 Charging at Costco when

If I get EV that means I have to go charge at Superstore (BC Hydro)... but I'm a Save-On kinda guy.

This is gonna sound like a lot but it's not too bad once u get your routine down/are aware of the stations u like.

superchargers consistently cheap (.25/kwh or $4/100km) and at Save On in richmond/delta/coquitlam.

Vancouver Chargepoints are even cheaper but more hassle - .2/kwh downtown or .1/kwh at trout lake ($1.50/100km!)
only 2-3 stalls so u gotta make sure it's available and idle fee after an hour ish means u gotta go move ur car.

BCHydro if I'm really in a pinch cuz it's the pricier one at .35/kwh.
Flo / Petro Can / Shell / On the Run are expensive and unreliable cuz the stations only have like 1 plug; can just ignore them.

Yes, because that's how much money you have. Returning stuff to Costco is a hobby and not a necessity.

Yes. I've driven a 964 C4 and a 996 GT3 CS... I don't get the hype.

I don't think anyone's hating on the GTI... we're hating the Golf R

Yes, I've driven a M/T Velo N, DSG Velo N, M/T MK7.5 Golf R (ew), DSG MK7.5R (with KW V3s/AP racing pads and whatever other track mods you wanna throw in there), and obv the FK8.

Haven't driven the GRC yet, but from the owners that went from FK8 -> GRC... most of them say that the GRC is a lot more livable due to AWD but you lose A LOT of trunk space. OTOH, most of them have the GRC as an in between car and end up getting a FL5 or back to a FK8 LOL.

On a complete package factor, considering fun and daily manners:

Velo N > Type R > Golf R

I honestly think Velo N is the car to have, if the brand reliability doesn't scare you. Albert Bierman worked his magic on the N division and it's evident in the Velo N. The Velo N doesn't take itself too seriously like the Type R, you can have fun like lift off oversteer. The Type R you really have to push it to have that level of everyday fun LOL. The Golf R is an appliance.

This is very true. I like Hobz' MK8 GTI A LOT more than the MK7.5 Rs that I've driven. Interior quality shockingly, and I know Hobz disagrees but, has gone up. 7.5R felt cheap for a 50K car. All the buttons creek, the door panels feel like it'll fall off when you close it, and there's not enough NVH in there to be happy about. At least there's some? Unlike the Type R. But it definitely feels like an economy car (not a $50K car) that was heavily cost cut. To be fair, I have similar gripes about the interior quality of the FK8 (they did a lot better in the FL5).

Funny enough all the touch & feel points / NVH is all stuff that AstulzerRZD used to evaluate a car on back ten or so years ago which I thought was silly at the time.. but I find myself referencing it so much more often.

1. Removed all the rust / brake dust on the rotors and applied some anti-rust spray so it will never look brownish again
2. Cleaned all the brake dust sticking on the rims and ceramic coat them
3. Added rear caliper covers to make my base performance model looks like real performance model.

TL;DR
I am full of BS and excuses, so no GTI for me.
What I think we all need is for Honda to put the 252hp K20C motor into a Civic Si but in the hatchback body and price it competitively against a GTI (say $42k). The current Si is too slow and the body style isn't practical while the CTR is too expensive/unavailable. I'd guess a lot of GTI and WRX sales would switch to the Si if it had 50 more hp.

totally! i would have gotten that instead of the GTI.

I tried the Si, and the only thing good about it was the shifter. Otherwise, it was slower than my Camry, significantly larger than what I expected a "hatch back" to be, and drives pretty much like my Camry.

I see the latest Civic Si went with a 1.5L turbo for 200 hp ... for fuel economy presumably. What would happen you put a stage 1 on it ... would it redline and whine like you stepped on a cat? Here is one guy's take on it

Is that so high strung? GR Corolla is 300hp from a 1.6T

Watching that video wow I've never seen such atrocious rev hang on a car before... it's like a full second every upshift!!!! Engine sounds good though.

Yuck that rev hang is bs. At least the hitlerbox doesn’t have that.

To get this Si to this level aren’t you a negligible distance to the type R ?

yah, scrap that idea.

Might as well tune the GTI and get it close to ~300 hp range ... if you even need that.
