Any witnesses to an accident at 620am today Granville & 12th Avenue? Helping a friend I need your help for a friend if you are a witness to an accident this morning. My friend's Lancer Ralliart is a total loss. Fortunately, he is alright. He doesn't have any injuries, just a bit shaken up. The accident happened on Granville and 12th this morning at 6:20am. He was heading west in 12th. The guy in a black SUV ran the red light, my friend tried to avoid him and the SUV hit the back drivers side and spun his car into a traffic light pole. The car is done. A terrible hit and run by the SUV driver. No plate number of the SUV could be obtained from witnesses. No dash camera either. He put a great deal of work in modifying his Ralliart. He paid 43K for it. If you were a witness to the accident, please send me a PM. That driver of the SUV needs to face justice for being a dangerous driver! Here are pictures of my friend's car before the accident: http://i1170.photobucket.com/albums/.../citrus2-1.jpg http://i1170.photobucket.com/albums/...ung/citrus.jpg |

No, no, you have the scenario wrong dude. Like I said, my friend was driving westbound on 12th avenue on a green light. He was not turning. The driver in the black SUV was driving on Granville street and ran a RED light on Granville. A hit and run by the driver of the SUV. |
Were there witnesses that saw the black SUV take off? If there are witnesses that saw the other vehicle run a solid red and there is body damage on the other car, then your friend is in good shape with ICBC. |
Yes, there were witnesses to the black SUV running the red light on Granville and taking off. No ID on the SUV's plate though. |

In this case, there is witnesses that saw the other vehicle. Your friend's car hit the other vehicle. Worse case scenario, he will pay a small deductable and sign an affidavid that the other vehicle took off. Did the police show up to take statements for the hit and run? |

Hopefully, my friend can get a new car soon. I strongly encouraged him to buy a dash camera AND a rear view camera. -can't be too careful these days. :( |
everyone should invest in one of those dash cameras..... hence a large thread in revscene talking about it. Just that money is problem for some people :( |
Some good news from my friend this afternoon. When he bought his Lancer Ralliart in '09, he bought car insurance with this type of coverage: He got an extra option for new cars, where he will get a brand new car for approximately the same value as when he bought it in 2009. It had a 3 year limit. He was 3 days off from 3 years. He bought his Lancer for 43K. He should be fine. ICBC should not lowball him in terms of compensation. As for the aftermarket parts, he said that he should be able to salvage. ICBC told him over the phone that once the damage assessment is completed, he would be able to get his car's aftermarket parts back. One of the parts is a Greddy exhaust. What car is he going to buy? A 2012 Lancer Ralliart. |
I'm sure Mr. W. knows the law very well ;) |
I'll keep an eye out for black suv's with front end damage. Hopefully some day ICBC will give you a discount for driving with a dashcam. |

if i was him my expression would be :tears::awwyeah: not sure if a dash cam would have caught much (i.e. the SUV) other than the ralliart having a green light. that being said even the cheap ebay one costs $35 shipped + cost of an SD card. for under $50 why the hell not eh? |
nobody knows what suv? at all? not even make? |

Anyways, it's a moot point now since my friend's insurance coverage allows him to buy a new car. Insurance coverage had a three year limit from when he bought the Ralliart in '09. |

I believe its call "Limited Depreciation" That's what i bought when i had my 2008 honda civic EXL, and I got into an Accident 100% my fault, and write off the civic. And ICBC sent me a Cheque close to the RETAIL for the Civic Minus the Deduction (300$) and paperwork fee.. which was around $600 in total. It works for 3 years, first three year, it covers everything... but after the third year, only cover "Water damage, (flood), or fire. |

the dmg to his car was pretty brutal |
Note that there is a downside to this coverage. Two of my friends have had their cars hit and instead of getting a new car, major damage was repaired because it was much cheaper to repair the car then provide a new one. Example 1 was a 2006 Honda S2000. Front end damage total was $25k. Example 2 was a 2009 Audi A4 hit on the rear drivers door and quarter panel damage total was $18k~. In both cases the cars were repaired. So then you are stuck with a car with a HUGE accident on it and major depreciation. You have to go after ICBC for accelerated depreciation. They hate paying this out as they don't want to set a precedent. |

I've always wondered this as well. Do they base the assessment on a market value of your vehicle to determine the write off or do they base it on a brand new vehicle. Cause if they don't base it off market value what a rip off. |
tell your friend to go to the doctor.. most injuries dont show up until 3+ days later... If the car was a total loss, i honestly believe that he would sustain some type of injury... |

Three types of optional coverage are available for your new vehicle: New Vehicle Replacement Plus, Replacement Cost, and Limited Depreciation. It is based off market value. |
