| BBQ Season 2012!
Does anyone have any recommendations on good brands and bad brands to stay away from?
My dad has a cuisinart natural gas bbq, about 720 sqin cooking area. It seems pretty good, nice thick grill, sturdy construction. I'm leaning towards a newer Cuisinart, but I also have very very little bbq buying experience..
my budget is only $4-600

Costco has some pretty good BBQ's ~ Their 'Blue Flame' series are lower models of Weber BBQ's, and stainless steel is super easy to clean-up FTW.

Vermont Castings is the best BBQ to get but you are looking at about $1100. the Weber would be great for your price range but if I was you spend more money and buy a bbq that will last you 10+ years rather then the normal 3-5 on cheaper models.

I've got one of these... bought it with AirMiles. Wicked little unit. Cast-iron grille. Fits 8-9 burgers. Folds up and tosses in the back of the Jeep nicely. They go for around $200. Travel Q

Just keep watching redflagdeals.ca for a deal. You can save some money by not going stainless steel. Remember it's the man that makes the BBQ not the BBQ that makes the man.

I use a pretty plain jane Napoleon grill & I think it's pretty good. Webers are nice too! If you don't need a big one the Travel Q and Weber's Baby Q would be great pick-ups!

Since it's quite a bit cheaperthan the weber I may look in to this. I don't Bbq but want to get in to it and would only be grilling for my wife and son and I like how compact this thing looks
EDIT: where did you find them for $100? amazon & costco has them at around $180. Time for me to check my airmiles i guess

Hmmm, seems to me Cambodian Tire had it for about that at the time... I could be wrong, though, and they don't list it anymore.
We regularly grill for three on it, it's got tons of space, more than it looks like. I can do three big flatiron steaks and a half-dozen garlic potato wraps (you know, you put cubed potatoes with butter and garlic wrapped in tinfoil and cooked on the grill)... or like I say, eight or nine burger patties.

Ah, my mistake, it was 2,000 AirMiles, that would equate to around $180 at retail: https://www.airmiles.ca/arrow/Reward...Id=prod1594122

Since we're on the topic of BBQs, noob question for you pros:
How long do most BBQs last? I have a Broiler King that was purchased in 2008. It looks ok and still works but should there be any signs of when it should be replaced? Thanks.

As long as you take decent care of it, the bulk of the grille should last for a long time. If it has an enamel-coated wire grilling surface, that might get rusty and need to be replaced (especially if you've used a wire brush on it and scraped some enamel off); a cast-iron surface will last forever.
The most common thing to fail is the ignitor, but those are cheap and easy to replace, if you even want to bother.
The main thing that goes is the burner itself, but most of them tend to use one of a few generic designs that can be easily replaced from Home Depot, Canadian Tire, etc. http://www.canadiantire.ca/search/se...=1335762566350

The BBQ Shop in Poco and Johnstones bbq's in North Van are the two best places around to go.
As well if you are having a issue my your burner for your bbq you might to redrill the holes with the bit that comes with the bbq. It's very common for them to get clogged up over time. I have to do mine but I have been too lazy lol

Does anyone have tips to keep cast iron in good condition? My BBQ sits outside and the grill is starting to rust. Even with me coating this thing in oil religiously after each use. Gonna sand this thing down and re-season this year.
Any truth to this? I feel like when I use a metal brush it scrapes food and the seasoning/coating off at the same time?
