I fell asleep while driving last summer, the sun was so hot and had no tinted front windows. Traffic was bad on 49th to Metro, each red traffic light I got at, I fell asleep and woke up right away. Next thing, I fell asleep while driving with the slow traffic. And opened my eyes to coming real close to the rear of the car infront of me. I tried to dodge the car by switching lanes fast but a car was driving fast down the lane and smashed into my passenger side. DONT SLEEP AND DRIVE! so dangerous, pull over and take a nap!! |
If you drive a manual, windows down and practice rev-matching and/or heel-toe occasionally during your drive...that will definitely keep you awake. You could always drop to 2nd/3rd, pull to redline and slow down again. |
I've tried driving to the states right after i get off work and those often I have to stop frequently at rest areas because i keep falling asleep. Now I go home and sleep for a couple hours before i head out. |
I went down to the states for black friday last year with a few friends, left on thursday afternoon, and shopped through out the whole night and ended up leaving to come back for vancouver the next afternoon, realized I was too tired and with the whole car load of people already asleep, I decided to pull over and we ended up all passing out for 4 hours outside of a convinence store at some gas station. |
dont try pinching or slapping your face... lol doesnt work.... having people to talk to is best, not the ones that always falls asleep while you drive... having 1 other person who can drive and taking turns driving is the best way for long drives... |
Somebody i know fell asleep in a residential area and just smashed into somebody's parked car. Brand new E350 destroyed aswell. |
AC, open windows and music can help a lot. I used to almost fall asleep sometimes while driving back home from my GF's house because the road was so familiar, it was dark and also because I was driving an auto lol. One time I was driving somewhat half asleep and next thing I know I was in my garage. I wasn't asleep while driving but I was so out of it I couldn't even remember the details of the 20 minute drive back home. After that if I was feeling sleepy I'd just pull over and take a quick 10-15 minute nap before driving, it helps a lot. After driving a manual for a while, I find that it's a lot easier to stay awake driving manual rather than driving an auto. |
Slowly picking away at food helps me a bit. Had a couple McDonalds burgers and some McNuggets, and I had my brother hand me something to eat every 30-40 miles or so. It might be excessive for longer trips, but it's effective if you're going somewhere in Washington or Oregon. |
I do day trips to seattle a few times a year, whenever I feel sleepy on the way back, I start singing. Border guard noticed my voice was raspy one time, thought I was sick, and just waved me through without any taxes. :fuckyea: |
I totaled my car a few years ago falling asleep while on hwy 91. Thank god no one was on the road. Best 2 things I learned afterwards that always works is to pick away at food (chips or drive though combo) or chain smoke. All else fails, take a 30 min power nap before continuing. |
Should pop a cap. It helps |
... Not sure I want to drive with this many people admitting to sleeping or "losing consciousness" :heckno: I chew gum or a pen cap if starting to feel tired.. Techno is always on anyway. :fuckyea: |
just buy a 5-hour energy drink from a convenience store..... cost of that is nothing compared to a car crash or even death swig half a bottle if its not a road trip |

whatever, in the real world no one is going to take a nap in the car especially if the destination is minutes away. so providing safe alternatives was all i was giving. |

I pull over and nap, got a cop that stopped behind me to make sure I was alright. Its not illegal, its encouraged in the learner's book. (just remember to pull off to the side safely) |
If I'm super sleepy, I drive with my index finger on my lips, about 1cm to the left.. |
