I can bet u sponsors and vendors were cautious when dealing with last year's DTP from the track record this city has had with the scene | This is pretty spot on.
Toyo Tires pulled their sponsorship on DTP citing economic factors and coincidentally, this all happened during and after the recession.
People nowadays are just making ends meet so any sort of "mod" will result in a change of trends. Building a high compression motor or a turbo kit isn't feasible anymore. Gas costs a lot of money. Instead, people are interested in just throwing on a set of wheels and lowering their cars and calling it a day.
The scene is still there. But peoples interests have moved on.

Again I really think its just a Vancouver thing. Importfest and other shows still go strong in the rest of Canada and numerous shows in the US. You say people's interests have moved on but I really think its sponsors pockets have just got smaller due to the ressession. But I still think the interest is still there. If a show did pop up here I think all spots would be taken and many would still attend to watch. That's just my 2 cents

06,07,08 DTP sponsored by toyo tires canada.
09,10 was the recession
11 DTP sponsored by yokohama
Dont think it will return for '12.
I miss importfest, scn, and old dtp by toyo trophies...they were bigger...lol

apparently my EK might be the boom plus EK
under my "vtec in car" decal on the hatch, there is supposedly the boom plus decal. i've never looked though so it's just speculation at best.

USDM ek hatches never came in white from factory |
