I see an MR2/

crazyazn 05-04-2012 02:15 PM

I would agree with a few others here...seems more like an MR2 successor than a Supra successor especially with the mid-engine layout...although no RWD.

Toyota can surely advance the 2JZ if they wanted to,they have the means to do so.

2JZ is way too old. Won't even pass today's V12 emission standards.

thank god. if this pans out, its gonna need to be ALOT different to be called a "supra successor"

IMO, its gonna need to compete with the GTR, be RWD and alot less ugly then the current drawing. that pic looks more like a newer mr-2

Phew. Doesn't deserve to be called a Supra with this whole new concept they have.

I don't really see the hard-on for the 2J.

The 2JZ wasn't even designed for the Supra. It was a great motor that just happened to work with the Supra.

The 2JZ debuted on the 1GS Aristo, while the MK3 Supra and the Soarer were still using 1JZ's. When they were designing the MK4 Supra, they based most of it off of the Soarer. (Basically the entire front end+ Subframes) It just made sense to throw the Newer 2JZ in place of the 1J to save on cost. The 2JZ was never designed to be this legendary. It was just a mass produced motor that Toyota fit in a bunch of cars, unlike it's rival the RB26; which was made specifically for the GTR. And it does exactly what the RB can, and it's way more reliable. And if you ever somehow blow one up, you can find a new one at the Junkyard for $2000, that's safe for 600+hp.

Actually, no, I do see the hard on for the 2J. They weren't even trying last time. I wonder what they would come up with if they tried.

Oh wait. They recently did :lol:sweetjesus:

It doesn't matter if the buyers don't expect good gas milage. Its the ever increasing emissions laws that will bend car manufacturers over.

Tetsugen 05-12-2012 02:06 PM

They should call it a Celica and throw it into WRC.:fullofwin:

Nabatron 05-12-2012 02:27 PM

^that pic of the car looks god aweful! front end is all fucked up!

satek 05-12-2012 04:55 PM

Stop reading at hybrid.

Everymans 05-12-2012 09:17 PM

Why do they keep making cars with no friggen bumpers? The lights will get smashed before the bumper does.

StylinRed 05-12-2012 09:49 PM

i hope this means toyota will make an 8th gen celica soon

although the 7th gen still holds up today doesnt look like a 13 year old design at all

SpuGen 05-13-2012 06:56 AM

Just gonna leave this here.
