Toyota Supra Successor Back in the Pipeline - Motor Trend

All-Wheel-Drive, 400-Horsepower Hybrid Expected, could be on showroom floors by late 2015 for less than $60,000.

Quote:

the new sports coupe (it's unlikely to be called Supra) would employ an all-wheel-drive system and generate upwards of 400 horsepower. The car is rumored to feature a mid-engine-mounted, 3.5-liter V-6 hybrid setup mated to a CVT lifted from the new Lexus RX, but tuned for higher performance.

Dissappointed!

Instead of a hybrid motor, why not just stick with the tried, true and legendary 2JZ & Getrag 6 speed.

bloodmack 05-04-2012 10:48 AM

When I see this car, I do not think Supra..

So they're gonna rebuild a supra? No need to advance in technology? The 2JZ is a great motor, I have one, but its so crappy on gas.

bcrdukes 05-04-2012 11:06 AM

CVT? dafuq?!

I strongly doubt that any 15 year old motor is the model of efficiency. Same reason the m3 doesn't still use the s14. While one of the most amazing engines ever produced for its time, the new m3 engine is more powerful, reliable and environmentally friendly.

Sounds like Nissan.

Concept looks like a bag of shit, WAY to many lines and weird chiseled areas.

Nobody buys a Supra and expects great gas mileage, the Supra was not designed for that purpose, that's what the Toyota hybrid line is for.

Toyota can surely advance the 2JZ if they wanted to,they have the means to do so.

Energy 05-04-2012 11:51 AM

I like everything about the car except for the CVT. At least give us a dual clutch automatic for a sports car!

But if they actually make this then Toyota is on a roll lately.

1exotic 05-04-2012 12:15 PM

god damn that is ugly as fuck.

should name it something else, cause it doesn't share anything common to the MK4.

jing 05-04-2012 12:16 PM

You owe me a 10 second car, not a 10 minute car

dinamix 05-04-2012 12:22 PM

400 AWD hybrid? take my money!

Recon604 05-04-2012 12:28 PM

When i look at this car, I see the subaru brz

optiblue 05-04-2012 12:30 PM

too little too late~ all hail Hyundai that never gave up on performance sports cars :)

Honda and Toyota are playing catch up as they realized that no one is buying their CR-Z's :troll:

bcrdukes 05-04-2012 12:33 PM

I gotta give one thing to Toyota - they know how to build good V6 engines.

vyrospec 05-04-2012 12:36 PM

imo, the shape looks like a potential MR car.
but hybrid :heckno:

The edges and sharp angles you see in the attached illustration at top are how one artist interprets the direction Toyota is believed to be heading with its new sports car.
Meh, this has been done like fifty times since the spy shots of a "next-gen Supra" turned out to be the LFA.

Hybrid, not RWD, not called a Supra; so yeah, not a Supra. ~400hp is interesting though.

dangonay 05-04-2012 12:40 PM

If I can't add a few bolt-ons and have a 1,000HP daily driver fully street legal car, then it's not a real Supra.

........Obama admin says otherwise :troll:

twitchyzero 05-04-2012 12:59 PM

more like a distant supra spiritual successor
obviously meant to target the NSX that will go on sale a year before it...which is gonna cost double the price :rukidding:

thank god. if this pans out, its gonna need to be ALOT different to be called a "supra successor"

IMO, its gonna need to compete with the GTR, be RWD and alot less ugly then the current drawing. that pic looks more like a newer mr-2

jing 05-04-2012 01:51 PM

This thing will decimate all after we put about 10 grand into it. Overnight parts from Japan if we have to

hk20000 05-04-2012 01:54 PM

it's more in line to become a MR2 successor...That image is some random artists' rendition you can ignore it.
