| WIDI (Intel Wireless Display)
Someone help me out with this. I see WIDI adapters that connect to the TV for receiving WIDI video. What's required on the laptop side to connect to the WIDI adapter? Is it software? Is it a mobile chipset thing? Does it just use WIFI? Is it specific to certain laptop models?
EDIT: nm figured it out. It's a combination of hardware and software.

Basic requirements look like i7 or i5 processor with Intel HD 3000 integrated graphics and a Centrino Wireless N adapter. The latest laptops my company ordered in from Dell appear to fit those hardware requirements. However, it didn't have any WIDI software pre-installed, which may be a problem since one of the requirements is pre-installed Intel My WIFI software. I'll give it a shot when I'm back in the office, next week.
The drivers are here: Intel® Wireless Display — Software and drivers for Intel® Wireless Display
Requirements are on this page: Intel® Wireless Display — System requirements for the Intel® Wireless Display

You can't connect your pod device to your TV right out of the box. My laptop have WIDI built in and I can connect to some TV's right out of the box.

MOST TVs still require SOME sort of box attached to do ANY kind of wireless streaming.

The big thing with Widi is it uses the computers CPU to compress the video before sending. Other ways of sending video wirelessly need to compress video using separate hardware increasing cost. Intel wants Widi in everything.

This will not happen with Apple as they are so closed. The only way you'll see this on the Apple side is they release an actual iTV type of device.
