Tons of good food to eat at different price points, lots of info online that surpasses what I can tell you. You can easily eat on a budget but still eat good food, or you can ball out with an equal experience.

^right

food is amazing in japan, so many choices. try yakiniku (kinda like korean bbq, similar to Gyu) , or go to low budget izakayas (hole in the wall) or standing ones. only prob i found in japan was , alot of places will only have jap menus. maybe few pics on the wall. so its hard to order.

near ginza a(not sure which station) and Ueno station, they have a whole bunch of izakayas under train tracks). do what Japs do, go to 2 or 3 in one night. try diff food /drinks.

if u have time to kill go to yamazaki or nikka distillery (however u need to book months in advance)

If any rs'ers are going to Odaiba, I highly suggest visiting the Mega Web History Garage.
Its a free museum filled lots of classic cars in amazing condition. There are also past rally cars used by toyota (celica gt4s) with all it's battle scar glory as well. You can also see old mechanics rebuilding classic cars through a window as well!

???????? ?????????? MEGA WEB???????

I'm heading to Japan in a couple of weeks and I'm looking to buy an unlocked phone there.

Does anybody have advice on where to go in Tokyo?

You can't disable the camera shutter sound if you get it from Japan or it's a PITA to do it (iphone requires JB and many Android needs root).

Unless the price difference/availability makes up for it, I wouldn't get a phone in Japan.

I am not sure if it is true or not but I always though in order to buy a cell phone from Japan you need to be Japanese citizen? Not sure though

I will be going in about a week or so. Will let you know. I am planing to bring around 140k yen to spend (excluding hotel and plane ticket). Hope is enough.

In order to buy a sim card(talk+data) with a Japanese phone number, you need to be a citizen.

Money wise should be enough, I brought more than you plan on bringing for two weeks and it was plenty.

I'll be buying an "overseas edition SIM free" or "white sim" phone, in other words, an unlocked phone which anybody can buy without being a resident.
After some research, it seems my best bet would be in iosys in Akihabara.

You can definitely get a SIM without being a resident, you just have to buy or "rent" the equivalent of a prepaid sim here.

My bad. You can definitely get a sim if you arent a resident, I actually rented one when I went. I reread what I said and I meant you didn't need to be a citizen to buy a phone, only if you wanted to buy(not rent) a sim with a Japanese number on it.

My list of requests to bring back mainly consist of odd-flavoured kit kats and these godly cookies

I didn't have long sleeves and only shirts at night so it was a but chill yay night. The heat at the airbnb isn't great but luckily there are 2 blankets. I think last night was 12 degree.

Coming back today. Food in Japan is awesome, people are polite. Went to the bar a few times and had a great time. Unlike bars in Vancouver where you get crap service and still have to tip. I don't a word of Japanese yet I felt very comfortable not to mention the snacks in bars taste good. And they are everywhere. I literally walk 2 mins where I stay and already the bs k alley is full of them. Sushi is awesome. This sushi place near the train station I went to almost dairy knows me lol. Pretty much the owner knows I don't speak Japanese so he try to communicate in English and give me a menu in English every time. He gave me a free beer today when I told him is my last day.

Clothing is also great. Got some pants, shirts and hoodies. I want to buy some jeans but they are too skinny for me. I can't fit them lol. Maybe the current trend there is those skinny jeans that's why. Was thinking of getting a pair if runners but no more room in my luagge. The baby and kids clothing looks so cute! I got a bunch of kids clothing for my niece.

People here are so nice. Even when the train station is packed they won't push or shove or try to butt in. Everyone moves into to the train to make room. Once I was looking for a specific store and google map was going weird I asked this girl for help. She actually took me to the store even though is out of her way. Very kind.

Just be aware there will be random people who speaks English to you saying there is some sales or offer you a cheap place for drinks. Ignore them is scam.

Edit the bars also open late like to like 2 to 3am or even longer. If you see a lineup for food just line up lol. I stuff myself with food. Street food are tasty but always a line up. Most restaurants and stores don't start opening till 11am so you can sleep in.

Best bet would probably be a random liquor store. They are very common and you can get pretty good deals compared to duty free

if you plan to use the Shinkansen from say tokyo to kyoto and back then it pretty much pays for itself in that trip alone plus you get unlimited local use for JR light rail (i had the week pass i think it was... ¥29,100) and for the other subways i just used suica
