Player salaries were reduced by 24% when the 2005 CBA went in. The Rangers had a payroll of $69 million in 03-04 and in the first year of the CBA the cap was set at $39 million.

CPE 08-29-2012 06:50 PM

Yah and there was a period where teams could buy out contracts without any penalties. I forget who the players that could bought out were.

RRxtar 08-29-2012 09:29 PM

i dont think any 04 rangers played in 05 lol

Frenchie 08-29-2012 09:56 PM

Henrik Sedin will be the one at the NHL13 launch at Metropolis.

Might as well start lining up now.

Mike Oxbig 08-29-2012 09:58 PM

They should hand out tickets 333 max :troll:

Wow, that was a massive cut.

You guys remember how much players like Jagr use to make back in the days?

Mike Oxbig 08-30-2012 12:00 AM

think bure was getting 10mill in the late 90s

sakic jagr 14 16mill?

mb_ 08-30-2012 07:16 AM

Haven't really followed the CBA stuff - how close are the 2 sides? I can't imagine having to endure another lockout. 2 in less than 10 years. Blah.

The NHL made a new offer couple days ago. The NHLPA was suppose to make a counter proposal today, but it didn't happen. Where they are apart are Hockey related revenue, how it is defined and who gets what size of the pie.

Malkin signed to play in the KHL. Some guys like Bogosian are going under the knife. Not that these things point to it, but my opinion is, best case scenario, a shortened season.

He makes more now than he ever did as a player

Jordan Eberle re-signs with Oilers for 6 years at $36 million. Giving away money like candy.

What's the source on this?

Razor Ramon HG 08-30-2012 02:12 PM

I remember lining up for the NHL11 (or was it NHL10) release at Metro with both Sedin brothers. Biggest gongshow ever, but I got a signed limited edition cover by both of them :lol

They can keep sucking and drafting all the top talent they want because in the cap system moving forward they're not going to be able to keep them all. Sucking long term is only good if you can turn the corner, sign some vets and ice a winning team, the Blackhawks did it right.

Hondaracer 08-30-2012 07:47 PM

lol yea, it will be hilarious if the cap actually does roll back, it will fuck over the nucks but not that bad, teams like the oilers will be fucking crying

And the Penguins, and Nordiques

Gilgamesh 08-30-2012 10:01 PM

Oilers just need to get rid of horcoff/hemsky and Souray's buyout is off the books next year. Khabibulan frees up 3.75mil as well. Only problem is, they may need to trade one of rnh/yakupov/eberle/hall in order to improve their Defense. I don't think the cap hit will roll back as it will create more complications.

Mike Oxbig 08-30-2012 10:20 PM

hahaha oilers should have drafted Seguin, Hall seems like a injury prone player already

punkwax 08-31-2012 07:19 AM

Hall is a beast.

Gilgamesh 09-01-2012 12:08 AM

Sorry, I thought this was amusing because it's rare to see two superstars go at it. Corey Perry vs Mike Richards back in juniors.

sonick 09-01-2012 09:02 AM

TSN2 is playing the 2009 WJHC... Oh Cody :tears:
