The NHL made a new offer couple days ago. The NHLPA was suppose to make a counter proposal today, but it didn't happen. Where they are apart are Hockey related revenue, how it is defined and who gets what size of the pie.

Malkin signed to play in the KHL. Some guys like Bogosian are going under the knife. Not that these things point to it, but my opinion is, best case scenario, a shortened season.

They can keep sucking and drafting all the top talent they want because in the cap system moving forward they're not going to be able to keep them all. Sucking long term is only good if you can turn the corner, sign some vets and ice a winning team, the Blackhawks did it right.

Only problem is, they may need to trade one of rnh/yakupov/eberle/hall in order to improve their Defense. I don't think the cap hit will roll back as it will create more complications.
