I played Tier 1 before and gawd dam it was an eye opener that i had zero chance to ever make it to a pro level. Ill just stick to dominating Tier 4

spideyv2 09-05-2012 03:12 PM

And this is partially why I hope there's no NHL lockout lol

punkwax 09-05-2012 05:06 PM

What do you mean? I'm sure we'll all look back fondly on the great WHL vs ASHL debate of 2012. :lawl:

Lol not really, more like former junior A, B, and rep players.

WHL > a non-contact rec league

JR A and B don't play div 2.

So while you throw out completely uninformed opinions, the level of play in many of these games is infact higher than your typical giants game as many of these players have played 4-5 years in a much higher level of play than the CHL.. also your "no contact" comment obviously shows that you've never seen a game within these divisions because outside of open ice hits, no contact is a term held very loosely with players who all know how to check..

I'm sure you've got a tonne of experience though on the rink of your local lacrosse box

I think you need to reword the way ASHL does the tiering

Div A - Ex-Pro, Semi-Pro, Major JR A, NCAA div 1, Womans AAA/AA

Div B - JR A, NCAA DIv 2/3, Womans A

Div C - CDN University, JR B, High School

DIv D - House and select

Div E - Beginner

Each Div will have sub-tiers EI, Div A1, A2, etc....

I play D1 and we have a possibility of being moved up to C2 and I will admit, it's hella hard. I can keep up in skating and not look out of place but once I get stood up on the boards, I've been knocked on my ass numerous times. "No Contact" means no open ice hits, lining up a guy, hip checks, etc. Doesn't mean there isn't any rubbing out along the boards or getting outright stood up at the blueline. I noticed the physical aspect starts around D1 and up.

Take out the bench/line brawls, all the scrapping and open ice hits from the WHL and you have Div A1 ASHL hockey. But I like Giants hockey because of the brawls and open hits...lol

- They traded Shattenkirk and Stewart to blues for Erik Johnson and McClement and a 1st. Granted, Stewart isn't in top form, but Shattenkirk appears to be racking up the numbers. I guess Landeskog is an upgrade over Stewart, but Stewart still has pretty good upside as a 50 point producing Power Forward.
- Craig Anderson for Brian Elliot: Elliot did not solve the Col's goaltending woes in that season and Craig Anderson is arguably one of the league's most under-rated goalies as he practically stole game 3 in Col's playoff run against SJ. He posted respectable numbers against NYR series.
- Varlamov for 1st rounder: 2012 was deep with Defensive prospects, something that Colorado could have benefitted from (or they could have had a decent asset in Grigorenko, traded down etc). I understand Col has some D prospects, but 2012 was loaded with a LOT.
- Traded Liles for a 2nd rounder. He could have mentored Erik Johnson or COl's defensive prospects.

- tl:dr- COL management is losing it.

Some moves may be questionable but they have drafted really well. In 09 alone they got duchene, o'rielly who has some upside (netted 55 last season) and Stephan Elliot who is going to be a stud offensive dman. The P.A. Parenteau signing is also a good one.

Not hard to draft well when you're drafting 3rd overall.

Taylor Hall, Tyler Seguin, Matt Duchene...one way or another, they were going to get a superstar.

You're thinking the 2010 draft when the Avs picked mid-pack. But yes, either Hedman or Taveres would have "dropped" to them.

Stastny - 2nd round 44th overall
O'Reilly - 2nd round 33rd overall
Elliot - 2nd round 49th overall He will QB the avs PP soon. N. Vancouver product.

free agent Shan Doan says deal is done with PHX, just needs Greg Jamison to become owner... which he says is almost done. #heisYotesCaptain

If Jamison deal fell through... Doan says he does have a short list of 2 or 3 teams he might sign with. #Canucks?
Should be the end of the ever-boring Doan saga.

Tim Budong 09-06-2012 06:54 PM

The canucks have been called back to town including Roberto Luo go for next weeks charity golf tournament.

Hondaracer 09-06-2012 07:34 PM

Damn I was hoping he could sign to Canucks...

Mike Oxbig 09-06-2012 09:51 PM

Canucks still need to improve 2nd line wingers.

murd0c 09-06-2012 10:03 PM

At least there's no rush to trade lu now, let Florida sweet since they need him more then we do right now. I just hope we get bjustad(worst last name ever lol) so bad

spideyv2 09-06-2012 10:19 PM

looks like Doan isn't interested in winning a cup

I think it would be almost better... they're more likely to be genuine and maybe even tell you some cool stories... a superstar from the team is going to tow the company line to the nth degree and be looking at his watch constantly wondering how much longer he has to do the event for.

b0unce. [?] 09-07-2012 04:48 AM

lol after all that looks like doan will just end up calling it a day in phoenix.

Not as bad as Hamrlik...

RiceIntegraRS 09-07-2012 09:01 AM

I honestly dont care if we get Bjustad or not. He'll help Us down the road thats for sure but i wanna win a cup now, so whatever Luu can fetch us better help us now and make an immediate impact. As for trading for prospects we should be drafting those players ourselves rather than trading away proven players. Our core is still in the prime, we have plenty of time to develope our new core of players

-had a feeling that Doan came to Vancouver just to get a free dinner from Aquilini at the Italian Kitchen. He said on the radio interview in Phoenix that his goal was to stay with the Coyotes.

Miroslav Satan.

Or is that actually kind of badass?

jeedee 09-07-2012 11:25 AM

I don't really blame Doan.

Doan is to Phoenix as to what Linden was to Vancouver--the heart and soul of the team [at the time], that loved the city and didn't want to leave.

I would have loved to have Doan playing in Vancouver, but would rather see him resign with Phoenix than sign with the Rangers or Flyers.
