It is down two - Phoenix and Vancouver. Coyotes Captain Shane Doan will sign a contract deciding where he will play by 5 pm NY time Friday
Same guy that broke the Steve Nash to Lakers deal.
The Coyotes will move to Quebec/Seattle and the fans there wont give a shit what you have done for the Coyotes. You will most likely be forgotten by PHX fans once the relocation is set.
For once, I actually agree with Mark Spector on his article about Bettman.
The commish is the main reason why the NHL is facing another impending lockout. Bettman has shown poor judgement in making decisions in running the league.
-expanding the NHL to hockey mad cities like Phoenix, Florida, and Carolina? Really?
This economist that Spector refers to in his article is spot on in his assessment about Bettman. The big problem is that the Board of Governors that hired this guy are also a bunch of buffoons when it comes to running a professional sports league.
I think the difference with Burrows was he took significantly less money on his current contract to keep building himself up, and I think his agent will use this fact to try and convince the Canucks to give him both term AND market value (or very close to). Burrows is smart enough to know his offensive production is a large byproduct of playing with Hank/Dank so I don't see another Anson Carter situation here. With what Trow Brauer signed for today, I think its pretty clear Burrows will be in the 4M range.
From what I recall, 2m/yr for Burrows back then was considered generous. He signed in 2008 and didn't break out until after he signed the contract. I guess 4M is a possibility considering the cap space. But it's still a hefty sum for a player that just happened to fit in.

While I hate Bettman as much as the next hockey fan, the expansion teams in Florida & Anaheim were already there before his start in '93. The only teams added during his tenure was NSH, ATL, COL, and MIN. Not great, but Minnesota is doing alright.
Rest of the article is spot on.

Doan announcement should be within 2 hours. Will be interesting if he signs here especially with the lockout looming.
