You mean Bryan Colangelo?

Last time Nonis traded for Luongo, he gave up a top 6 forward, top 4 defenceman, and a backup goalie.

What a day...Burke gets fired...Seattle is getting a basketball team.

IMO, leafs really lacked a #1/2 centre.

Look at all the top teams centres.

Henrik/Kesler
Datsyuk/Zetterberg
Kopitar/Richards
Bergeron/Krejci

You missed some. Burke Flipped an under-performing versteeg for a 1st rounder and scrapped Kaberle for a first rounder. The Kaberle first rounder was flipped again for Anaheim's 1st round pick for Tyler Biggs while the versteeg pick was used to pick Stuart Percy who will replace Carl Gunnersson in about 2-3 years. He also strengthened the farm by trading Luca Caputi for Nicholas Deschamps and drafted Morgan Rielly, Matt Finn, and Jesse Blacker galvanizing the farm. An efficient farm is a precursor for rebuilding or development.

About the Kessel trade, you sort of need a neo-revisionist perspective. At the time, it was feasible because it was kessel for 2 first rounders, not necessarily a 2nd and 8th. It was astonishing that the leafs finished 2nd last that season. Also, Winnipeg and the 6th team were stupid in not choosing dougie hamilton. He also brought Steckel, who solved a major problem of defensive zone face-offs.

On the other hand, he did sign connolly, and traded for lombardi, but they'll be gone in a year. Komisarek in 2 unfortunately. Franson is a good trade chip, despite his follies.

They got Mikhail Grabovski. He is offensively competent, but has an average defensive game. His value in terms of cap/value effectiveness, is another dispute, but he is capable of 50 points. Burke also flourished MacArthur's career.

The Leafs really should've been better than they were but the team Burke put together was a second-rate team at best. They were never going to contend with the guys they had but at the same time, they ALL had bad years when they put on that Leafs jersey. Only Kessel and Lupul had good seasons last year...in pretty much the entire period between 2004 and now.

Bob McCown on #Sportsnet: Burke didn't want to deal Kadri & Gardiner for Luongo. Felt it wasn't the right deal to make. #Leafs

This is pure speculation at this point...but if this is the case, wow.

I would love to see the Canucks get a first rd pick in this year's deep draft. Won't help us for this year, but could set us up nicely for the future.

Sportsnet said he was one of the owners that was holding up the lock out being a dick about it past couple of months, same with hfboards.

Bettman did a good job, the NHL should give the fans free center ice remaining of the season. That alone will gain my loyalty back.

Bettman is basically just the face, he takes his marching orders from the NHL BoG, which is basically controlled by Jacobs and Ed Snider. That's why I always get a chuckle out of fans just focusing hate on Bettman when all he is doing is taking orders from Jacobs/Snider basically.
