LA D core was serious business during with Mitchell Greene and Scuderi all defensive defensemen. Allowing Doughty, Voynov and Martinez to chip in offensively.

NJ was an anomaly, no doubt. They barely got by Florida and they were lucky they didn't have to go through Boston or Pittsburgh in their run. | You could call them what they want, underachievers, whatever. Had they not made the playoffs even, none of their late season push or their run would have mattered. There are underachieveing teams every year, who look good on paper but just can't pull it together for one reason or another

^ There's no way they can mess up a top 5 selection unless they go off the board and grab a goalie....

Can someone please educate me on why GMs hand out NTC's? I can't think of one possible benefit for the team. We've seen it time and time again with Luongo, Iginla, Nash, Heatley etc that in the end, the team will either ask you to waive it or submit a list of teams you will and will not go to. So why hand them out? In the end, it always handcuffs the team.

How many players actually spend their entire careers on one team? Probably not many. In some cases, like Luongo's, it comes back to bite the player in the ass. Take Iginla for example, the situation in Calgary has changed. He's not what the team needs anymore. They wanna get younger and shed salary.

You cant hate the player for wanting the best possible contract.
Blame the GM for handing them out.

Players give up term & money for NTCs all the time. That's why Canucks have so many players with NTC, because Gillis hands them out in return for leaving money on the table. Posted via RS Mobile |

If you were an elite athlete playing for the Hawks, would you really want to be traded to a bottom feeding team like the Calgary Flames?

Luongo staying might not be the best decision, but its going to be a good test moving forward this season. If this team doesn't take a hint after that emotional and honest presser, then something needs to be done. He might not be playing, but he's still an integral part of all the success this team has.
One has to wonder how long the leash is on Schneider right now. Any thing short of at least 3 rounds of Playoff hockey could spell trouble for the core.

According to Canucks.com, , it's Luongo's birthday today.

@strombone1 Happy birthday Lu! As a longtime Canucks fan, it's a great experience to see you play as a Canuck. Great things happening this yr. Posted via RS Mobile |
