Suter will get something silly like $7m a year, 10 years with the league max for the first 3 years of the contract.

Watch that open the door for Weber becoming the first $10m a year Dman.

dbaz 07-02-2012 01:16 AM

suter already had an offer over 100mil..

RiceIntegraRS 07-02-2012 01:19 AM

Imo, Suter is overated. Playing with a guy like Weber only helps ur credentials. I dont think hes worth anything close to wat hes being offered.

dbaz 07-02-2012 04:16 AM

canucks re-sign andrew ebbett 1 year deal 600k
brodeur re-signs in nj 2year 9mil

SkinnyPupp 07-02-2012 04:24 AM

:ahwow: @ Brodeur

The fat old man gets a nice 2 year payday!

Vansterdam 07-02-2012 04:58 AM

Martin Brodeur signs two-year, $9 million contract with the New Jersey Devils.

Good to see brodeur not retiring yet

DanHibiki 07-02-2012 05:07 AM

Resigning Penner at 3.5mil :fuckthatshit:

Plus the crazy signing bonus he'll probably make like 24mill at least the first 2 years.

No big surprise, Radulov to CSKA Moscow - 4yrs, 9.2M per.

Report: Radulov signs four-year deal with CSKA Moscow

Preds fans actually say the opposite. I read that Weber actually thrives off playing with Suter. Weber is more marketable cause of his size, shot, etc, but Suter is better in his own end and plays a more cerebral game than Weber.

Weber is the braun, Suter is the brain.

I don't understand why some of you guys are saying Garrison isn't solid defensively - before he found his offensive game this season, his solid defensive play is what made him good. He's rock solid defensively and will prove that this season and onward. An upgrade to Salo in my opinion. Salo is too injury prone and on the downside of his career. I'm definitely sad to see him go, but 2 years at 3.75m is way too much for a defense man who won't play the whole season. Makes sense for Sami to go where the money is, he's doing what's best for him financially.

More on Garrison - of course his stats were a bit inflated playing with Campbell but you can say that about anyone in the NHL. Obviously if you play with good players your stats will be better. Prime example is Ehrhoff playing with the Sedins. Garrison will be a stud on the PP with the Sedins and has an absolute bomb of a shot. Stoked on this signing!

SkinnyPupp 07-02-2012 09:21 AM

I agree. People saying that they overpaid for Garrison are out of their minds, or don't know anything about supply and demand. There isn't exactly a huge number of solid, big defensemen with a wicked shot who are entering the prime of their careers.

Salo was overpaid, only because he's old and fragile. He's still a solid d-man, so teams will still pay him almost $2 million a year.

kristianhay 07-02-2012 09:26 AM

Yeah exactly - and if you look at market value for d-men right now, Garrison came at a great cap hit. Wideman at 5.25, Salo 3.75, Souray 3.7, Kuba 4, Suter likely to get around 7+. From his own description of his playstyle, he sounds like exactly what we need.

Garrison: "Describe myself as strong two-way player. In offensive zone, just get pucks thru to the net, be physical when I can."
Pinizzoto also resigned.

spideyv2 07-02-2012 09:30 AM

Haha, I was just on pinizzoto's twitter. Glad we gave him another shot

Exactly. If we didn't sign Garrison, who else would we get? Carle? Campoli? Lol. If we didn't sign Garrison, our D would be seriously fucked.

Grandmaster TSE 07-02-2012 09:33 AM

campbell benefited playing with garrison as well

kristianhay 07-02-2012 09:38 AM

Definitely, those 16 goals happened because of Garrison's clapper as well. If you watch the highlights, a lot of it is a simple D-to-D pass for the one timer - it's not like Campbell was making amazing cross seam passes every play.

Gh0stRider 07-02-2012 09:48 AM

torres suspension reduced by 4 games.

I would like to thank my teammates for the friendship, hard-fought battles, and all of their support. I was not always a perfect player, but I always gave my best and I appreciate the way the fans treated me. It is an honor and a privilege to have been able to call myself a Vancouver Canuck."
Class act all the way to the end. Will be weird to see Sami in another uni.

Canucks still need to fill that 2/3 line center position. Someone in case Schroeder can't make the jump (though I think he will). A second line winger would be nice as well. I'd take a gamble on Mueller.. the guy has tons of talent and potential but has been riddled with injury. Seems like a classic Gillis reclamation project. Something like 1 year @ 1.5m would be nice.

spoon.ek9 07-02-2012 10:34 AM

it will indeed and he will be missed. being on the east coast, i guess he'll be seeing a lot more of ratface though.

kristianhay 07-02-2012 10:43 AM

It's Eklund but let's hope it's not true.

Was just told Florida is OUT on Luongo. They had interest but grew tired of the Canucks demands and are moving on. (e4)

MR_BIGGS 07-02-2012 10:44 AM

Looking at the team right now, we can see certain areas where they need help. Does Gillis have the luxury of going into the season with both goalies, making a trade for one of them during or nearing the trade deadline? Or is that too much of a toxic work environment?

I think if he waits until sometime into the season, he gets a desparate team trying to make the playoffs push and gives more assets. That way he also gets to see where his team sits as is.

kristianhay 07-02-2012 10:47 AM

Dreger just now. Stupid Eklund haha. It's kind of funny how Dreger keeps embarrassing Eklund by proving his rumors wrong.

Quote:

Darren Dreger ‏@DarrenDreger

@Eklund. Sorry pal. Just talked to Dale Tallon and he says nothing has changed. Still talking with Van. Nothing imminent. High price.
I think it would be too toxic to go into the season like that. Signing Schneider for 4m per shows that the Canucks have chosen him as their starter - you don't sign a backup for that much. I just don't see Lu with his ego doing well while riding the pine. Even if the two split ice time 50/50, I just don't see it working out well. It's a huge distraction for the goalies as well as the team.
