Peculiar tweet by Booth yesterday. I guess he figures he'll be bought out, but I feel like you shouldn't go out and publicly admit it (sort of) mid season haha.

"@jdb0417: .@D_Booth7 any ideas on how you are going to spend your buyout money?" give a lot to charity

Don't think you need to read too much into that response. Its not like he came out and said "which charity should I donate my buyout money to?"
What if his reply was "going to learn how to hunt bears without luring them"
Which team gets the last playoff spot in the west? Clutch game by Detroit today. The Red Wings play Nashville one more time on April 25th at home. That is gonna be a heck of a game.
I say Detroit is the eighth seeded team in the west when the playoffs start. Posted via RS Mobile
If Detroit gets the last playoff spot in the West, a playoff series between Chicago and Detroit would be a TV ratings booster for the networks. Two original six teams playing each other would be fun to watch.

I hope CBJ makes it in, and NYR fall out. I love Nash as a player, but I think he's a bit of a cunt for pledging his allegiance to CBJ to get his long term deal with NTC, then asking to leave not even a full year later. Just a bit of poetic justice. Like when Hossa left the Pens for the Wings, then the Pens won the cup against the Wings that very year.
On the topic of Wings talk, Jimmy Howard is supposed to be getting a 6 year deal worth 5.3M caphit. I don't follow the Wings admittedly, and some are saying the only reason the Wings are even in playoff talk right now is because of Howard's play with an overall craptacular defensive lineup, but I still have trouble putting him into the same category as other elite goalies. He's always played behind great teams/defenses up until this year and he has never had to be great, just good enough. 5.3M hit for 6 years is some serious commitment for a guy who many consider average or just above average. I see him more as a 3.5M-4M goalie, maybe 4.5M if somebody wants to overpay for his services. Is he worth 5.3Mx6 years to any other team in the league?

4.5M for 5+ years or 5M for 4 years would probably be more fair, but at the same time, Wings gotta do what they gotta do to keep him; 5.3M for 6 years isn't horrible, and he is sort of underrated...and yes, he IS the only reason they are even in contention of a playoff spot...he's had like one bad game all season, while Datsyuk and Zetterberg have had more than a couple of just absolutely horrible games....Throw in the fact that Detroit's defense has been a complete shithole, he's played VERY well.

Except Nash did not ask to be traded. Dumbass Howsen announced to the league that he wanted to trade Nash because he didn't think Nash figured in the future of CBJ. By announcing it, he also lowered Nash's trade value and screwed over CBJ.

On Monday afternoon, Columbus Blue Jackets GM Scott Howson called Rick Nash and told him he wouldn't be dealt before the NHL Trade Deadline passed. That he made an honest effort to move Nash and get the proper return for the star winger.
But the honesty wouldn't end there — no sir, it would not.
Howson also informed Nash that he would be revealing publicly for the first time that it was Nash, rather than team management, that sought a trade. That the Jackets' team captain requested a trade in "mid- or late January," and set the wheels in motion for his departure.
"It's the right thing to do. It's the truthful thing to do," said Howson of the revelation.
For the GM, it's a moment saturated in honesty, frustration, spite, fortitude and doom. Nash forced his hand; he responded with middle fingers raised.
It may not be the best thing for the GM, the player, the team, the fans or the trade market — but here's to someone in professional sports allowing their aggravation to manifest in "the truthful thing to do."
