The Canucks were down 2 games in a playoff series before, way back in 1994. Anyone remember the first round playoff series against Calgary?

We were down 3 to 1 in that series before the team won three straight games in overtime.

Clutch goals that I remember: Geoff Courtnall's slap shot over Mike Vernon to win game 5.

Bure's overtime winning goal in game 7 thanks to a sick pass from Jeff Brown.

Now why can't Edler make those kinds of passes like the canoe Mr. Brown??

-very frustrating to watch Edler play like a deer caught in headlights at critical moments of the playoff games.

Game 3 is the biggest gut check game for this entire team.

The entire team has to play for each other as if their lives depended on it. -cannot depend just on Kesler and Luongo to carry the team on their backs.

AV and the coaching staff better have the right game plan to win a game in the Sharks rink or else Gillis will fire all their sorry asses very soon.

May as well slot in Ballard at this point, whether it be for Alberts or Corrado. Alberts had a pretty bad game as well, was caught out of position on more than one occasion. I say it's time Ebbet is bumped from the lineup - what replaces him, pick your poison. Schroeder to play on the 3rd with Hansen and Raymond like earlier this year, or throw someone else on the fourth line so that the fourth line can actually play more than 3 minutes and throw some body checks.

Higgins - Kesler - Roy
Sedin - Sedin - Burrows
Raymond - Schroeder - Hansen
Weise - Lapierre - Kassian

Hamhuis - Garrison
Edler - Bieksa
Ballard - Alberts

Lou
Cannata

I like this, atleast it gives us a chance to match up with SJ's offense.

Higgins - Kesler - Roy
Sedin - Sedin - Burrows
Raymond - Schroeder - Hansen
Weise - Lapierre - Kassian

Higgins Kesler Schroder
Sedin Sedin Kassian
Higgins Burrows Hansen
Ballard Lappy Weise

works too

Alberts Corrado and Tanevplays better defense than Ballard

kristianhay 05-04-2013 10:15 AM

It hurts that our fourth line plays about 3.5 minutes a game, when the lowest TOI for San Jose was 9:46. The fact that they're basically rolling all four lines keeps their guys a lot fresher, and adds a different physical element to their game.

I think Ballard ≠ Alberts/Corrado at this point, just my opinion.

Nathan Horton UFA next season, anyone have open arms welcoming him here? Bruins fans don't want him... :troll:

UFA - Bryan Bickell LW - 6'4 221lb - Don Cherry's favorite - http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/teams/players/bio/?id=4509

Bickell Kesler Horton :D

spideyv2 05-04-2013 11:01 AM

Watching Edler play can be extremely frustrating. He's definitely a potential Norris winner, though!

highfive 05-04-2013 11:03 AM

Edler puts more time doing his hair than his game. God damn.

But big appreciation to hamhuis! He's stepping it up every shift.

Frustrating watching how our guys get managed on the ice. Granted we only have 2 guys that can win faceoffs but winning a faceoff is also largely dependent on your wingers battling and not just on your own pure reflex and skills. And then there's Andrew Ebbett.

Basically AV has 2 lines worth of players plus Roy that he trusts. It's a tough cycle, the 3 and 4 liners know AV doesn't trust them to play the important minutes, they are anxious when they actually get ice time leading them to screw up or make the safe play and cramps their ability to create scoring chances, which leads to line 1 and 2 getting more ice time. Hank always talks about how solid he feels the TEAM is this year when healthy, but AV sure isn't playing the players like a team.

Vale46Rossi 05-04-2013 11:50 AM

Honestly, yesterday the ref's wanted to fuck us so bad....

I was at the game and it seemed like most of the calls were fucking retarded.

Kesler played with so much heart.... fucking eh...

Hamhuis was horrendously slow in game 1 btw

He looked better in game 2 but not by that much lol

It's brutally obvious now after a few years of Canucks "success" that AV has been a bad coach hiding behind good players. As the cycle is on a downturn now from their 2011 peak his inability to adapt and counter his opposing coaches who've figured out his gameplan proves he's a one-trick pony. He plays clear favouritism with his players, hangs others out to dry, denies newcomers to his system any real opportunity, and is simply outcoached when it matters in the stretch and playoffs. The Canucks will not win a cup with him behind the bench, and they'll be lucky to get out of the first round this year. Time is ticking for the Canucks before it'll be rebuild time, if they're knocked out by the Sharks (likely) then it's time for a coaching change.

If the Canucks are bounced in the first, AV is 100% gone, Gillis may even be gone. The team will look dramatically different next season, good or bad. Players who will likely be gone:

-Roy
-Raymond
-Ballard
-Booth
-Lu
-Ebbett
-Weise

So we'll look something like...

Sedin - Sedin - Burrows
XX - Kesler - Kassian
Higgins - XX - Hansen
XX - XX - XX

Hamhuis - Garrison
Bieksa - Edler
XX - Tanev/Corrado

Schneider
Lack

With the cap going down, it's going to be a wonder how we'll fill in those gaps.

Not really racist! 05-04-2013 02:05 PM

Hard to rebuild when 95% of your core has a NTC/NMC

:lawl:

spideyv2 05-04-2013 02:39 PM

Edler, Bieksa, Hamhuis and Garrison all have a NTC. On paper, that looks like a solid top 4, but unfortunately, it's not.

I could not agree with this more. AV is a good coach, but not a cup winning coach.

kristianhay 05-04-2013 02:44 PM

Hamhuis/Garrison have been solid, imo. Bieksa/Edler is a god awful pairing, both very mistake prone.

sekin67835 05-04-2013 03:22 PM

I think the problem with edler is that he doesn't know what kind of D he is supposed to be. Puck carrying D? Defensive shutdown D? Slap shot D? I see him try go close the crease to try to set something up. He's trying to do too much I think. Causes him to be sloppy and think too much.

Channeling '94 Bure for tomorrows game. Hoping the boys claw back.

No more Florida Panthers players please :heckno:

spideyv2 05-04-2013 04:01 PM

Why is it that most ex-Panthers that get traded/sign with us become a major let down, yet other ex-Panthers can have success elsewhere?

kristianhay 05-04-2013 04:09 PM

Haha I don't think that's really true. Players to Vancouver from Florida in recent-ish history:

-Jovanovski
-Booth
-Ballard
-Higgins
-Luongo
-Garrison

Booth/Ballard are the only ones who have been really big let downs.

In all fairness the following guys were not the so called highlight of the deal but were still included.

Lukas Krajicek
Victor Oreskovich
Steven Reinprecht
Mike Duco

Just to name a few. Whatever happened to these guys.

kristianhay 05-04-2013 04:43 PM

^

Yeah, but we're talking about players who were good in Florida who busted in Vancouver, not players who were always bad haha.

Trade Edler for Couturier+ or Tampas 3rd overall pick (Drouin or MacKinnon)

His NTC kicks in before July or something
