Xenophobia, meet hockey. | The CHL wants more Canadian-born goalies playing in the league from what I've read.
You look through some rosters in junior and the majority of goalies are from Europe.
However if they're planning to ban European goalies from import drafts, might as well ban forwards and dmen as well if they're trying to focus on a "CANADIANS ONLY hockey league" |

Also because there's only so many spots to fill for a goalie so more Canadian kids are being left out. For skaters there is multiple spots for each position so it's not a problem.
Most of the "locks" from previous years might not even be starters next year (Lu, Flower). Goaltending used to be Canada's strong point. http://www.nhl.com/ice/playersearch....=nav-ply-plyrs

While you're on the topic of banning European goaltenders, then you have to ban American goalies as well, no? It's the same thing, and like Jeedee said, where does it stop? I think it's an absolutely stupid move on the part of hockey Canada, and while it may give Canadian goaltenders a better chance to succeed, it doesn't necessarily mean they'll be any better, it just means the competition will be less.
This is an issue that runs much, much deeper to the minor league levels, where there is very little developmental opportunities for goalies. If you really want to develop good goalies, go back to the fundamentals and what is taught growing up, not by limiting the competition.

Most of the top American goalies currently playing did not come out of the CHL but developmental programs I believe Posted via RS Mobile |

Yeah for sure, but I think it's just the principle - if you ban one, how can you not ban the other? Furthermore, it's not like there are THAT many star NHL goalies that developed in the CHL. Lundqvist, Rinne, Kiprusoff, etc didn't play in the CHL. Just doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Would be pretty stupid to just interview one guy and hire him on the spot, without seeing the other candidates |

I am very surprised that Marc Crawford isn't one of the candidates.
-He knows most of the core players.
-He can handle the media in Vancouver.
-Plays an offensive style type of hockey that matches the "skill" set our team has.
-2nd Most Wins in Canucks history.
-His voice can sing a duet with Hansen for everyone to laugh.
