^He cannot rejoin the team he was bought out from for at least 1 year, whether through free agency or trade.

BRYZGALOV needs to fight a bear or two. Then play better if that is the case

Like how he told Carter he wasn't going to be traded. :troll:

Report: Avalanche will not take Jones 1st overall | NHL | The Score

Quote:

According to The Denver Post, Avlanche executive VP of hockey operations Joe Sakic said the team is leaning towards taking a forward if they end up keeping the first overall pick at the coming NHL Entry Draft. Jones and forward Nathan MacKinnon have spent most of the year being billed as the probable first pick on June 30th, and while many experts have Jones as the #1 skater prospect available, it appears that one of MacKinnon, Jonathan Drouin, or Alexander Barkov have caught the eye of the Avs.
:derp:

Avs are goofing so hard. They desperately need a franchise dman in BBC Jones... I don't think their defense led by Erik "1st overall bust" Johnson is going to make things better.

And whats worse was they traded Shattenkirk for Johnson

Sure they COULD draft Mackinnon/Drouin/Barkov but will just end up like the Oilers--great offense, NO DEFENCE

Avs are double dun goofing

411ken 06-19-2013 07:31 AM

I myself, would go with Mackinnon but that's just me.. They could simply obtain D help via trade or FA (Maybe trade Stastny for a D) and have a C core of Duchene/Mackinnon/O'reilly

IMO Mackinnon is too good to pass up

jeedee 06-19-2013 07:45 AM

Easier said than done to acquire a franchise dman (a la Doughty/Pietrangelo/Weber etc).

It's all fun and games when you're scoring...till you get outscored like the Oilers.

Big 4 offense of:
Eberle
Hall
Nugent Hopkins
Yakupov

.....With Justin Schultz on D? :fuckthatshit:

The Av's will simply become the next Oilers (IMO) if they decide to pick a forward

411ken 06-19-2013 07:54 AM

They don't need a "franchise" D

Having Duchene/Mackinnon will be your franchise core

They could trade Stastny for a fairly good D, while not a franchise guy, it would be a good return. They could O'reilly to CGY too since they wanted him for any of their D (If they have any good ones at this point lol)

Maybe I'm just not a jones fan from the start so hearing this is kinda nice for me lol...

Give EDM better goaltending, and I can see them making noise

411ken 06-19-2013 08:00 AM

But who really knows.. maybe Sakic is just being sneaky and trade the #1 a couple spots down and still get jones 3rd or something just to get an extra asset

None of these guys are 1st overall. They just happened to pan out great.. I mean Shea weber was 49th overall for crying out loud lol

Hedman was picked 2nd ovr and IMO hasn't been that great since being drafted 4years ago (don't get me wrong, i like hedman)...

Edit : Letang rumours flying around now that he's on the block.. I wonder how much he's asking for his new contract lol.. 6.5? 7? per year

According to Lebrun, Letang is seeking at least 7 mil per.

EDM needs better centres. Nuge / Gagner / Horcoff / Belanger doesn't cut it.

They sit at the bottom for FO%.

Look at Boston. They were #1 in FO%. And Bergeron is going beast mode right now.

MR_BIGGS 06-19-2013 11:07 AM

I don't see how the Avs are goofing by not taking Jones. Depends on your philosophy. Do you draft based on need or based on best player available?

dbaz 06-19-2013 12:07 PM

apparently Michael Cammalleri has requested a trade, too bad hes overpaid at 6mil

Avs top 2 line up will look like this with statsny being shopped around

Landeskog ROR -
Drourin Duchene Parenteau

Maybe Avs want to trade down to get lower pick along with Carle++ (TBL) or Kulikov++(FLA)

Mike Oxbig 06-19-2013 12:37 PM

Booth for Cammy
if calgary is willing to keep 1.8mill

Bryan Murray says he's looking for atop 6 forward. If Mike Cammalleri wants out of #Flames, is there a match. 1 YR. 6 Mill left on his deal

Book O' Floob ‏@bookofloob 43m
@RogMillions just curious, has he expressed a desire to leave? (I'd understand if he wanted out, just hadn't heard anything)

Roger Millions ‏@RogMillions 40m
@bookofloob That is my understanding.

Gord Miller brought up some interesting part on the Avs and Seth Jones.

Quote:

Very surprised to see the quotes from Denver re: the Avalanche passing on Seth Jones to draft a F. Championship NHL teams are built on D.
Quote:

The NHL final four all featured a Norris-calibre D: Boston (Chara), Pittsburgh (Letang), Chicago (Keith) and LA (Doughty)
Quote:

Does Jones belong at that level? The track record of D who dominate at the CHL level is pretty strong. Still think Colorado takes him.
Quote:

Of the last 10 Cup winners, can be said all but one (Car 06) featured a top end #1 Dman. Many GM's think D is the most important position.
My question is...can our Edler become that player?

UFO 06-19-2013 02:20 PM

In the last 15 years, there has been 1 d-man take 1st overall, Erik Johnson in 2006. Much like goalies, D-men are developed and seasoned IMO, and solid scouting and drafting is a big part of that, but ultimately they need to be groomed and some luck also needs to play into it as well. How a d-man can pan out is much more difficult to predict than forwards typically. Looking back at 2006 where Johnson went first overall, out of the 9 d-men that got drafted in the first round, maybe 2 or 3 have become regular NHL caliber players, and none can be even closely considered as a game changer.

Point is a MacKinnon or even Drouin pick at 1st is a safer pick than Jones. Avs could drop down to #2 or 3 and get an NHL caliber d-man in return. Similar idea with drafting goalies first overall, unless they are clearly head and shoulders better than anybody else at #2 pick, which I don't feel Seth Jones is. Btw last 2 first overall goalies were MAF and DiPietro, just sayin

Mike Oxbig 06-19-2013 02:23 PM

we would be similar to 06 canes but canes depth were clutch with heart and determination

Canucks have none of that

dbaz 06-19-2013 02:23 PM

elder seems to actually have regressed so i wouldnt be asking him to be a number #1dman. hes still putting up the points but his mobility has gone way down, probably due to his surgery. as for dmen, taking them high in the draft is risky. boyle undrafted , keith, chara, subban, webber 2nd rnd, letang 3rd etc. . they are the 2nd hardest position to develop after goalies. safest pick would be the forward.

He already is. 1 game out of every 6 or 7 though :D

Not really racist! 06-19-2013 02:45 PM

Lmao... I thought we already established that Edler will never become a #1 D...

Maybe he has a shot at it on a different team tho... youknowwhatimsayin?

I've said this before.. 9/10 teams will take MacKinnon over Jones
