Okay, lets do a comparison

Elite Offensive Talent: Daniel, Henrik
Up and Comers: Kassian, Jensen, Schroeder
2 Way Assistant Captain: Kesler
Depth: Hansen, Raymond, Lapierre, Malhotra (Borderline gritty, undersized, yet somewhat skilled)

Shaky, yet solid D: Edler, Garrison, Hamhuis, Bieksa, Tanev, Ballard

Up and coming elite goaltending: Schneider

I give NYR the edge

Nash will be valuable to the Rangers. He played unreal during the Olympics when given the chance to play with other elite players. As much as folks think the Rangers fleeced the Jackets, its hard to make a move when your franchise player demands a trade. Howson's hands were tied, and I think he got decent return considering the situation.

Nash is going to be good, we know that. Even though he only got 59 points in 82 games played and was -19. Playing with stars, his PPG production should go up and he'll be valuable in the playoffs. He's a big boy so he can play gritty.

Columbus gets Dubinsky and Anisimov who got 36 and 34 points respectively. Both were plus players and both can play centre. Rangers were not about to give up any roster players like Callahan.

They also get Tim Erixon who was the Ranger's top d prospect. He's only 21, and some scouts are touting him to blossom into a top pairing NHL defenceman. His attitude seems shitty though, because he forced Calgary to trade him when he refused to sign with them.

And they get a first round pick next year. Some are calling next year's draft class as deep or deeper than 2003s. The Rangers selected 28th this year, and many are saying what's the point, its going to be a low pick again.

Go back to 2003 and see who was drafted 28th overall. An NHL MVP. The same year Weber and Bergeron got drafted in the second fricken round. I'm not saying Columbus is going to get a player like Corey Perry, but they got the best they could for what the siutation was.

Canucks fans better prepare themselves for when Luongo gets moved.

That was when Gainy was in charge and he was dealing with the loss of his daughter. Not in the right frame of mind for sure making that deal.

More mtngs expected in Nashville as owners decide whether or not to match Weber offer sheet. Many around NHL don't think Preds can.

Philadelphia is willing to talk trade for the 1st round picks if Preds don't match. Nashville will need players. Could shop the 4 firsts.
Damn, if Philly gets Weber, Atlantic division is going to be entertaining. If Nashville doesn't match, guess Gillis/Gillman where wrong in thinking there was no such offer sheet ever that Nashville wouldn't match.

I think it's kind of stupid that they didn't make an offersheet because they THOUGHT Nashville would match.

If it's true that Aquaman wanted Weber at all costs, then Gillis certainly let him down because our ownership has something Nashville doesn't appear to have: money (plus a profitable franchise).

The Canucks discussed with Weber the idea of a one-year, $14-million deal. It included a $1-million salary and a $13-million signing bonus. It was a risky plan but the Canucks believed it was the only contract that could potentially land the player. If Weber were to ever have signed such a deal, and the Predators didn’t match, the Canucks would have given up four first-round draft choices. If the Predators did match, Weber was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in one year.

Anyone else getting tired of Gillis making all these excuses?

You either get the guy or you don't. Telling the whole world what your failed plan was does absolutely nothing good for the team especially when you're trying to deal lu

I don't think the offer the Canucks were going to give would be even close to what Philly offered in terms of money over the first say 5-6 years. Canucks probably would have offered a 1 year deal and lost a ton of draft picks for a guy they might lose in 1 year, or offered a longer deal with a similar cap hit to what Philly did, but with way less money up front. Either way, Nashville probably would have matched either offer. What Philly offered, truely is un-fucking-believable money wise.

As for the Nash to NYR talk, I don't care too much about the trade beyond it most likely taking NYR out of the Doan sweepstakes which might help the Canucks. I really want to see Doan come here. Lets face it, CBJ wasn't going to get any value from Nash. Their hands were tied with an expensive contract on a guy who they had to move sooner than later. It was only a matter of time before they had to accept something. This should open up the trading a bit tho as Im sure a few teams and players have been waiting to see where/if Nash will go. Now that NYR is out of the market, a few players who may have been considering NYR have less options.

Edit: Jesus NYR still has over $13m in cap space! Altho they only have 5 D signed and 13 forwards so they still need to spend some money including re-signing MDZ. Canucks currently only have $3m in room. Luongo, MayRay, and Manny are hogging $10m
