Is my laptop fucked?

I go to turn on my laptop and it is a black screen with nothing but the recycle bin in the corner. No icons normally found in the bottom left corner (Chrome, IE, view desktop button), but there are icons in the bottom right corner.

I tried system restore, but it only goes as far back as Jun 7th, no restore points before that.

My C: drive says 177GB free of 232GB. I've never looked at it closely, but the laptop is used primarily for our business... word documents, a few photos, Quickbooks. I don't use it for gaming, so it seems that 55GB of data worth of documents and pictures seems reasonable...

Thankfully I do have a backup of everything, but is my laptop fucked? Anyone have an idea of what virus I may have accidentally put on it?

When you're at the black desktop screen, is there any input response? Are you able to click on any items or do anything? Do things look different after a system restore to the 7th?

^^^^Why does the brand matter for a software issue?
Definitely a virus. I'd save the headache and just re-install windows since you have a backup anyway.
