It's not obvious by the amount of light in the pic? Reverse lights are not designed to aid in vision but are safety device, used to indicate a motorists intent (such as a turning signal). On dark streets, especially in the rain, having brighter lights when parking makes things a heck of a lot easier.

Your post is confusing, first you say they're not supposed to aid in vision, but then you say you use them to help you park. While these HID's might make it a bit easier to park if you're too blind to use the regular reverse lights + brake lights to see, you've now just blinded everyone behind you like an asshole.

TL;DR - You're an asshole.

Not saying I agree with HID reverse lights, but I think he meant that regular reverse lights are dim, and only meant to signal your intention to other motorists or pedestrians. Brighter HID reverse lights therefore, would greatly aid in vision when backing up in dark areas.

I am doing an HID reverse light upgrade on my car as well. Helps enormously with the backup camera, especially since I park pretty tight so I want to be able to see the camera easily at night as well.

I am wiring mine into the switch for my windshield wiper (I deleted the actual wiper), first speed setting turns both lights on, 2nd speed setting is going to make them "strobe" (flash at an interval, I will see how fast I can get it to be with HID's, before I destroy a bulb or ballast).

Tailgaters will be banished from my rear bumper!!

^Two concerns:

1: Flashing HID's is a bad idea, as the consecutive bursts of large current draw will fuck something up. HID's use less power than normal bulbs, but they require more to ignite...be careful.

2: Lighting up reverse HID's, while it may be very useful to ward off tailgaters, carries huge risk because at some point, there will be a police officer somewhere behind you, and you will have a terrible headache soon thereafter lol

High voltage and low current draw.

It will probably mean the ballast will die quickly, not to mention if anything bad happens it won't damage the fuse but something upstream. I am not sure where you park, but it takes a while for the HID to warm up to full brightness.

It situations like the latest generation of LED especially COBs would be better.

1. I know there is a ton of negatives to this, and it won't work well most likely. Just a thought I had as to how far I can push it.

2. Electrical malfunctions can really be a hassle...

Gonna have a look at some new LED's maybe even the Triton V3's or something like that. If there are other options that can get near the same brightness and bi-pass some of the huge pitfalls of the HID's I will take them into consideration. The warm up of the reverse specific HID's is something I have been curious about, I was hoping that they just warm up super quick.

Bought a JVC double-din... was leaning more towards last year's Pioneer AppRadio though because of the jailbroken app compatibility. O well. Still got a good deal!
