can you take close ups from the outside of the car showing the camera. Like a foot or two away from the camera/rear-view mirror?

Thanks

asr 09-06-2012 11:51 AM

Does anyone make a camera like this, but encased in a replacement rear-view mirror? So it would be a little more 'stealth' install?

I don't really want this big freakish cylinder on the back of my mirror.

Just got my 400 installed with PowerMagic. Will from ASR is a very nice guy and patient, very professional. Got it done in the quoted time. Answered my million and one questions.

Also showed me how to use it, and configured it for me as well.

I will go to ASR again for other electrical components I want to change out in my car.

Thanks again!

ps. please post the pics you took so that I can post in my build thread!

Ok. I'll probably order one soon. Question I had was regarding the mounting. Is it permanent or removable/reusable. So what I wanna do is have the cam on front windshield and then in parking mode, have it in rear. Can you remove the unit at will or is it held to windshield with double sided tape?

asr 09-09-2012 12:38 AM

it is transferable.using 3m tape

Your best bet is to somehow get another one of the holders, and mount the holders on both sides of your car. You'd probably have to get 2 power adapters too, unless you don't mind leaving wires hanging around

Curious...why the rear?

And mounted in the rear, facing the rear of the car?
Or mounted in the rear...facing forward of the car?

As per this photo:

In parked mode, this is probably best viewable angle to see sides of your car as well as front. Although it might be just as good for drive mode so I want to experiment.

I might just buy the camera with 2 mounts and move it back and forth.

inv4zn 09-09-2012 09:43 AM

The biggest problem with the setup above is that a lot of the times the camera won't white-balance properly.

It'll meter off of the dark stuff inside the car, and everything on the outside will be blown and you'll have little to no detail.

You may be able to see WHAT happened to your car but you're not going to see WHO did it.
