| PC shutting down while watching movies?
So recently I've encountered some issues and have no idea what's causing the issue. I'll starting watching some videos using VLC Media Player and part way through my computer would just shutdown. Restart and it will give the message that windows shutdown with an error and do i want to start windows normall, in safe mode etc. Log back in and the error message will pop up saying windows encountered BSOD. It's happened 2 days in a row so far and I haven't experimented with different media players etc. Any thoughts?

What kind of videos you watching there?
But seriously, seems like a lot of other people have this shut down issue too (Google). Experiment with the other media players and run some virus scans (along with Malwarebytes Anti-malware). EDIT: make sure the GPU is clean of dust and getting adequate airflow!

if your getting BSOD, you need to see what the error is and not guess what it is...
copy down the string of numbers/letters and google it...

Donut - Porn of course! Just about to finish and PC turns off!
On a serious note I was watching some TVB dramas with the gf. PC turned off like 3 times while we were on the final episode. The last time it turned off there was only 1 min left on the ep! FU!
Well I just did a number on my PC in terms of cleaning out the dust. It wasn't loud before but the sound of it now definitely sounds a lot cleaner. I'll test it out for a while and hopefully that's the end of it.

Also check your GPU and see if there is any dust, that or see if it is isolated to VLC, perhaps try other programs and try to replicate the problem with those.

I had this before, it's overheating, as what everyone else mentioned.
If possible, take apart your computer and vacuum the dust that may be blocking the fan.
I was ready to junk my laptop until I was told to do that.... I had 5 years of dust trapped in between the fan and the heatsink. After dust removal, it was totally fine.
If that still isn't good enough, buy a laptop cooler.

Psu's will turn off as a preventative measure against frying. Use some aerosol spray to clean out the dust stuck between your fans, it clogs up quite crazily over time so ensure a good airflow. If you're using a laptop, never place it directly on a blanket or couch surface. If you're using a desktop, place a piece of wood or cardboard beneath your pc on top of carpet.

So I've opened up my tower and did and cleaned and cleared out all the dust that was built up. Previously I was using VLC so for testing purposes I've been using Windows Media Player for the past month and everything was looking fine until the past few days.
The past few days the same problems have returned regardless of what Media Player I'm using and will even cause the same problem if I'm on Youtube or any other streaming site.
Without actually taking the PC to somebody, swapping out parts etc is there any other way I can troubleshoot it to at least find out what is causing the issue?
Thank you in advance.

It's been pretty warm the last few days, so I think it's still a good chance it's temperature related. Get some software that can monitor your system's various temperatures. It'll let you see if a temperature problem is happening. I use Speedfan, but I'm sure there's a lot out there. See if it's operating at normal temp. Maybe you just need some thermal paste.

i would also check the thermal grease on the heatsinks. that stuff dries up and hardens over time when it goes over the max temp it was designed for

Thanks for the responses, just downloaded Speedfan so will look at that. Even though I've cleaned all the dust I probably wouldn't mind getting a 2nd fan plus maybe get some thermal pasting done. Argh this is annoying.
