Wow the guy who owns the Amuse 370z has been driving with his L the entire time, I find that more surprising than the fact that they were doing 160 lol

Granted, through a construction zone isn't that smart, but it's not like they were doing 200, 220.

Edit: I ain't asian.

Speed is completely relative to conditions, car setup, driving ability, and surrounding vehicles. There is no way to say “160 isn’t that fast”.

Wow. So many badass F1 drivers in here.
I never knew 160 km/h was not that fast and completely safe...

Maybe speed limit should be increased to 160 km/h since it's only half the speed of a F1 car.

Before you guys jump on the bandwagon and onto conclusions.. the media EXAGGERATED or misinterpreted by claiming the Novice license as "learners" on their article... this is technically true as Novice stage does fall under the learners category, but i'm almost 99% certain all of you guys were thinking of it as a L license. As far as i know, 3 of them have their N - Novice license, NOT L - Learners

If one driver suddenly needs to stop, chances are, the drivers behind won't be able to stop in time. logically, more cars mean more damage if something happens.

Also the psychological factor that when a bunch of friends are driving together, whether racing or just "spirit driving", they'll push each other to go faster than cruising alone.

The articles say they had their class 7 Learners, which is where the people commenting about the L got their information from, including me. It's stupid how much the reporters exaggerate things in their articles though... racing, having their L.. if they were really racing they probably would of been going faster than 160km/h considering the cars they were driving.

I was so pissed watching the global report last night. don't give two shits about the drivers but they had no decent footage of them racing so they inserted a clip of a friend of mine drifting his fully built drift spec red 350z on a legally sanctioned track IN THE US!! fucking stupid. sometimes i wish i could just reach into the tv and bitch slap the anchors.

An add on to this:

Two young street racers in Whistler an example of growing Lower Mainland problem

Quote:
Two novice 17-year-old drivers who almost hit a cyclist while drag racing on a winding road in Whistler have been charged, fined and had their vehicles impounded. This less than a day after four other young drivers were caught excessively speeding in Vancouver.

Police say it’s part of a disturbing trend that has seen an increase in complaints about speeders on Greater Vancouver highways. “This is the second incident of novice drivers involved in street racing in the Lower Mainland district in less than 24 hours” says RCMP spokesman Sgt. Peter Thiessen. “This incident could have easily resulted in serious injury or death”

Police are receiving a hike in the number of complaints about drivers witnessing cars drag racing on Hwy. 1, Hwy. 91 and Hwy. 99 from the U.S. border to Whistler, he said. In some cases, friends of racers use their vehicles to block other traffic from the road while the race is on.

“Complaints about vehicles racing on the highway appear to be on the increase over the past six months,” said Thiessen. “These drivers are putting themselves and others at risk.”

The racers face not only charges and fines between $200 and $500 but the possible forfeiture of their vehicles.

In the Whistler case, RCMP were called to an accident after two vehicles racing on Blackcomb Way were unable to stop at the stop sign at Nancy Greene Drive and swerved to avoid hitting a cyclist in the marked crosswalk.

A 2009 Mazda stopped in time but a 1995 Ford Explorer struck a boulder and both drivers tried to flee but were stopped by witnesses.

Police said the coworkers had left work together and one of them pulled across a double solid line to race the other.

Police impounded both vehicles for seven days and charged the drivers — both 17 years old and class 7 new drivers required to drive displaying a “N” symbol.

The driver of the Mazda, who lives in Whistler and had been convicted in May for speeding, was charged with driving without consideration of others on the road and fined $196.

The driver of the Ford, a 17-year-old Vancouverite living in Whistler, was charged with driving without due care and attention and fined $368. The Ford was registered in his mother’s name.

In the Vancouver incident, four drivers between 21 and 23 years old — three of whom were required to display the “N” as a condition of their licences — were ticketed $483 each and had their vehicles impounded for seven days.

The RCMP has forwarded a report to the provincial civil forfeiture office to have all vehicles, which were worth between $30,000 and $60,000 and included a Porsche, permanently seized by the province.

Rob Kroeker of the forfeiture office said vehicles can be seized if they are used to commit an offence and used unlawfully.

He said the office recently settled out of court on the forfeiture of a high-priced vehicle seized after its owner was caught speeding on Hwy. 99 last summer. He was one of 13 driving vehicles including Ferraris, Maseratis and an Aston Martin worth a total of $2 million in total. Proceedings are continuing against two others.

A man allegedly responsible for a YouTube video showing a motorcyclist travelling at up to 299 km/h on Vancouver Island is in custody in Kelowna, according to Global News.

Randy George Scott, 25, turned himself in to the Kelowna RCMP on an outstanding warrant and has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

I'll do 160 all day every day in my 7.

I will not, say, do 120 in a Chevy van without being afraid, or in a Yaris.

Those cars listed, honestly, if they weren't impaired, I truly don't see what the big deal is. I find that less dangerous than people who merge onto the highway at 50 km/h. You don;t see news articles about those dumbasses, but they are way more dangerous.

imo anyone caught speeding to the point where they get their car impounded should be deported from the country. If their parents can't teach them how to be normal citizens, they can live somewhere where the authorities look the other way.
