Leaky bathroom faucet help!!!! Well this bathroom faucet leak is driving me insane(faucet is only 7 years old)!! I've been working on this problem for over a month now and I'm at the point where I might have to resort to calling in a plumber.... And if he is having the same issue I am, I'm sure its going to be a full replacement faucet. If anybody knows what I haven't tried or a good plumber that knows Kohler faucets please let me know! Well it all started with a dripping faucet. So as a good DIY guy, I located the main shutoffs in my apartment(its owned not rented) and shutoff the hot/cold water. Then I disassemble all the trim and get to the faucets cold and hot shutoff. I searched online and alot of people are saying its the Kohler K-304-KS-NA Rite-Temp Pressure Balance Valve. So i get on the phone to Kohler parts and ordered a brand new valve. Installed the valve(following the install instructions and lubricating the O-rings) and it did the same thing as the old one. Now to have two bad valves and one being brand new from Kohler tells me something else is going on. Looking at the design of the valve, it should be the main water stop for the system. Here is some pics of the faucet and new valve...... http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...n/ac1b26ee.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...n/1600e18a.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...n/9bd84219.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...n/16df0e19.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...n/373ae946.jpg |
Are you sure the o rings are sealing properly to the brass housing (maybe the housing is corroded?)? Or worse, are there any issues with the brass housing itself? Looks like there's a lot more going on behind that valve you replaced. http://cdn.nationalbuildersupply.com...-304-ks-na.jpg |
Well the installation of the new valve is pretty straight forward.... what my understanding talking to Kohler cs is that the balance valve should shut off all flow of water to the system. So when I explained to them that the water still dripped when I turned the nob all the way off, they told me its the balance valve. Here is a pic of the two mating service. http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...n/f0d5dcf1.jpg |
has this been resolved? i am trying to find a reputable plumber to fix a kohler product. i'm working on my parents' home which is over 20 years old and one their faucets is dripping badly (also kohler). my dad did call a plumber and he made it worse and did not come back after my dad refused payment afterwards . because it's so old EMCO told me to pull the entire faucet out and bring it to them, which is a little too much for me to handle because i'm not a plumber at all. |
OP totally reminds me of this Disney Short: |

i ended up looking online and found out the name of the fixture and went to emco in burnaby with this info, but unfortunately the lifetime warranty only applies to parts manufactured after 1997, which ours was not :( regardless, after i told them what the name of the fixture was, they were able to find the correct part. the cartridge was not that expensive at around $17 each. |
