Allegiant Air versus Alaska Air

Hey everyone, currently I'm thinking of going down to Vegas for a five year anniversary and since all of my friends and co-workers have recommended Allegiant for their cheap prices, I'm having 2nd thoughts after reading this thread.

Also, I had another friend that recently travelled with them two weeks ago that had a bad experience because (a) When they landed in Vegas, there were no terminals for the airplane to dock, so they were stuck in the Vegas heat for almost an hour and (b) on the flight home their flight was delayed due to mechanical problems when it was in Fresno, so they ended up having to stay another night.

As well, he said he didn't feel "safe" while in the air with them.

After hearing all of this I'm pretty scared so I was wondering for those of you who have travelled with them Allegiant before, would you do it again, or would you pay the few extra hundred dollars and fly with Alaska Airlines or something similar?

I have used allegiant maybe 6 - 8 (round trip flights) times before to vegas and LA and never have had any issues....delays are something that for the most part can't control so i would not make that a deciding factor.

As for Alaska i have used them for maybe 10 flights before and never once had an issue.

It comes down to a few things for me in why i would decide which one to pick.
1) what is the cheaper cost...allegiant chargers for carry on bags now so don't forget to add that in...it is ur anni so dont go that cheap
2) flight times...whatever gives u the longest time in vegas
3) stop overs...i dont really care about stop overs ....but if u do i think alaska stops over at least once in seattle/portland or lax

Those would be my main concerns before you decide

It is cheaper sometimes when you book a long time in advance, when it comes to a couple weeks notice its not that big of a difference.

Along with the airfare you have to keep in mind you gotta drive down there which means gas money, parking fees, along with other BS fees like luggage fees and even carry on baggage fees.

When you factor in all of these things there might only be a small difference in the two and in that case go fly out of YVR. Much more relaxing cause you dont have to factor in border times, how long you have to take to get there and if youll make it in time for all the check in and security waits.

from what I recall flying alaska airlines vs. allegiant, cost of baggage, alaska is free for one carry on and one personal bag (backpack or purse) and allegiant is charging a fee for a carry on. Alaska gives you complimentary soft drink or juice or water, they also usually serve some soy nut mix and also usually a cookie. Allegiant does not offer that. Alaska has a mileage program and they miles do not expire, you can also acquire and use miles on partner airlines. Allegiant does not offer that. Alaska's fleet is newer (newer gen 737's mainly), Allegiant has an older fleet (MD-80's that are no longer in production) I have flown Allegiant to and from Vegas, Los Angeles, and Long Beach via Bellingham. Have never had an issue with them. I have flown Alaska from Vegas, to and from Honolulu via Bellingham, Seattle to and from Newark, and Seattle to Atlanta and I have never had an issue with them either. These are just things I have noticed on my travels and hopefully help you make a decision. Oh and also remember to check if it is cheaper to fly on allegiant on one way and then alaska on the other way. I have done that as well when the scheduling was better and the price difference was minimal.
