Question about pumping gas, and maybe some locations?
 

Hey guys,

So I put 91 octane in my car, but I don't like the idea of using a pump that had someone pump 87 octane in it previously, and most likely has a small amount left in it....

I know the amount might be neglegible, but if I am paying for premium I'd rather use a gas station that has seperate pumps for premium gas.

Do you guys know where there are some of these? I know some Shell locations have them, but I can't seem to find them around.

I'm In burnaby by the way. It's totally counter intuitive for me to drive to surrey/richmond to pump gas haha, anyone know of any gas stations in Burnaby?

Also, preference for 91 oct? I go to Shell since I see their ads on Forza 4 :ilied:

Shell on 41st and Knight have dedicated pump hoses for 91.

Gas stations only get grades 87 and 94 only

89 and 91 octane grades are created at the pump by mixing portions of 87 and 94 octane together

Unless you ride a bike, I doubt it's even really making a difference if you top it up.

You are telling me with 87 (10% ethanol), and 94 (0% ethanol), they can make 91 octane (which has 0% ethanol)

You'd need an infinite amount of 94 to get it close to 0% ethanol, I really don't think that is how it works

Regardless, next question, which gas station do you all prefer and why? I don't mean convenience wise, I mean does anyone have any reason to believe some gasolines are higher quality than others? Ex. Techron?

Why not just get Chevon 94... it costs about the same as 91 anyways, maybe 1 or 2 cents more per litre....

^^exactly, if youre going 91 then going to 94 is only 3 cents more iirc. The jump from 87-94 then its understandable. Btw 91 contains ethanol too, only 94 doesnt

I have seen some shells that the pump says 91 contains 0% ethanol.

Jumping to 94 would be completely unneccessary. I have absolutely no knocking or chance to detonate at 91, so upgrading to 94 would be pointless. Not only is it a few cents of a jump, but It would burn too slowly and I would lose milage.


Soooo back to my question, which gas do you all prefer? Lets not make this an octane debate :suspicious:

Me, I was a manager at a Chevron station for 3 years and we had 3 tanks
2 tanks for 87 and 1 tank for 94

I did the morning tank dips for inventory and fuel delivery and signed off on the amount of 87 octane and 94 octane that we got

Probably one of the dumbest things I've heard in a while..

So in other words, your car runs perfectly fine now with the 91 on the shared pump yet you are too cheap to use the only option that would give you a pump that only dispenses 94 octane to please your psychological fastidiousness.

There is a simple solution to this.

1. Drive to the gas station
2. Park where theres spots for you to go inside.
3. Walk around the pumps until you see a BMW/Merc/something that uses 91 (richmond probably has the most of these cars)
4. Quickly go drive your car to that pump and wait for that person to leave
5. Enjoy "pure" 91 :fullofwin:

I don't use shared pumps. I use individual pumps for 91 at shell most of the time. No need to upgrade to 94, that is even more retarded than driving out of my way to get a 91-pump.....



There are pumps out there that individually dispense 91 octane. I don't understand the internet honestly, what is with people giving stupid rebuttals?

I pass maybe 10-20 gas stations sometimes and I might as well take 2 seconds to stop at one that has a separate handle. I'm just trying to find some locations in Burnaby since I am living here again....

Seriously, tons of cars use shared pumps without issue, hell I prefer the 91 at Petro, and it's fine on my car with a lean tuned ECU. You're fretting about nothing.

Also, maybe you should re-read your OP before you call out someone for making "stupid rebuttals".

so you know that the amount of gas is negligible in terms of it's effect on your engine.. but you still want pure 91 because you're paying for it. So you really want pure 91 to save .1 cents every fill up?
