IMO in vancouver it is very hard for new grads to find work. always has been...at least for the electrical discipline.

My dad told me this quote he had heard. You become successful when the money starts working for you.

I truly believe this

Well, to be honest, I never finished high school (19). Not due to me hating school, but because there were too many fucking idiots in class, it's a long story. (I couldn't afford to be home schooled)

Thinking of joining the Forces like my friend did, I'm genuinely interested in it.

^How does your education depend on the "idiots in class"? It's called self-study, and seriously high school is a joke.

You pass just for showing up and you can graduate without even taking math 12.

LOL.

I didn't go to class because of the idiots, how am I supposed to retain information when there are dickheads running their mouths all the time. Not to mention I was the subject of a nazi level of bullying, which also makes it slightly harder to walk into class.

Yet my friend and I were the ones that got into college before any of my "class mates" even graduated. The one class I did excel in was mechanics, straight A's all the way through, and there were no idiots to contend with.

Dickheads = no show

why would you fail the guy for being bullied out of school?

you guys do realize how serious an issue bullying is right? people have killed themselves over it, Yoda simply took himself out of that environment and based on his last post it sounds like he ended up going to college anyhow

fail, fails

I ran education pretty hard and heavy.

I have found that wealth and education are two separate things.

Work ethic / intelligence /education are three separate things.

Now you can have any combination of the above, all three, or none of them at all.

The people that I have found that have done very well financially (into the millions or higher) have done the following.

1. They often are masters at sales. They're really good with people and they can sell ice to an Eskimo.

2. They are often masters of people (similar to sales). They are able to network and network and network. Then, they're able to network some more.

3. They are often quite impatient. Many of them actually went to post secondary and either dropped out because they were bored, pissed off, thought it was stupid, felt that there was a better way, or they finished and often didn't get the best grades.

4. Even in law school there was a saying that many of the A students will end up working for a C student. (see above about networking and being a master of having people skills).

5. Work ethic. By far, the best quality you can ever have with anything. I would put my money on the failing student with the crazy work ethic over the A student that puts in a decent effort any day.

6. Fearless. Most of the people I know that have done well have had a lot of people tell them they're stupid, that they'll never amount to anything, they've heard a lot of no's, and they keep on pushing ahead. A friend of mine who's super wealthy told me that when he does business meetings or tries to prospect to build his business further, he's fearless. Why? He said "what's the worst that's going to happen? Will the guy snap my neck and kill me? No? Then what's the problem?"

7. Not being too smart. Ever met someone with a super high IQ? They're fucked up. You can't have a conversation with them. I have a friend with some kind of crazy IQ in the 160's and he's a PhD in engineering. The guy can't even open a door without writing a book report on the door-knob. I have no doubt he will probably invent something that will change the way the rest of the world lives their daily lives. He will do it for a company where the CEO makes 10 times more than him and the investors of that company will make 10 times more than the CEO.

Last of all, my father, a very prominent businessman who did very very well, didn't finish elementary school. He pushed me so hard for school even though I swear my brain was not designed for it.

Why?

He said "Son, when you were born, I went to an insurance agent and purchased an insurance policy on myself so that if I died, you and your mom would be able to survive without me.

I want you to get an insurance policy on yourself, so that if all else fails, you will be able to survive. Education is that insurance."

There are other options, such as alternative schools that have smaller classroom sizes. With so many resources and various ways to grad, it's hard not to finish highschool these days

i don't get how you couldn't 'retain information'... idk man, 'cause 95% of students can do it
unless you had a learning disability
