Gym Membership Qs

I'm thinking of joining a gym and I have a few questions.

1) I just graduated from SFU last term so I am no longer a student. I still have the student card which does not expire. Can I go on a student plan by flashing my student card, or will the gym call SFU to check?

2) Is signing for a gym membership similar to signing a phone contract where you can negotiate for a cheaper plan? If so, how would you do this? Normally for Fido, I would mention a competitor's advertisement plan. I don't see any gym advertisements for a cheap membership.

3) I'm looking for a gym around waterfront/burrard/granville skytrain area. I'm planning to check out the Steve Nash, YWCA, and YMCA Robert Lee. Are there any other gyms I should check out? I'm mainly interested in their weights.

SFU inputs your student number into the system to see if you are currently a student/enrolled.

1) unless the gym offers student plans, then it's not possible.

2) possibility, but because every gym is different in quality, atmosphere, services, it's hard to compete.

3) steve nash is expensive.. enough said.

well mine is $33 a month which works out to be $700 a year.

i just don't like the lump sum i have to pay in order to get the discounts. i wish they would have monthly membership at $33 for those people who don't go everyday.

$700 a year and i go 3 times a week... it's quite expensive if you work out the numbers.

anyone know any place that sells membership monthly for around $30?

If you want cheap just go to a community center gym. Yes it stinks and ppl don't wipe the equipment after they use it but it is cheap.......
