First of all, I am a car ne00b.
What is the cheapest and safest way to modify the sound of my car? Everything is stock right now and I am not wanting to spend $1000 on a new exhaust unit.
If you want your exhaust to look like the first set of pics then go to the shop boatcaptain suggested. Or if you want a properly done job, visit The Speed Syndicate
Imagine starting up your modern, boringly silent car and the interior is filled with the thrilling sound of a powerful, burbling 60's muscle car...
Throw it into first (or drive for automatics), hit the gas pedal and prepare to be blown away! In every phase of driving including accelerating, decelerating, shifting, cruising and idling - the sound is so convincing that it actually fools your senses into believing that you're driving the real thing, a muscle car from the sixties or the seventies!
When you prefer to listen to your favourite music, just plug in your MP3 player and the music will transmit loud and clear through your car stereo system.
No installation, no tuning, just plug into the cigarette lighter socket, select a frequency for the car stereo receiver and turn up the volume. Easy as 1-2-3
If it's auto a cheap exhaust will probably sound like ass.
On my first car I bought a universal muffler and got muffler man on kingsway to make a custom catback with it. Cost was around $300 total
Another cheap way to do it if u just want more sound is go with something like an ebay axle back. It'll probably sound like ass but you're better off asking on a BMW forum
On my miata I went with a Magnaflow catback and was so much happier with it than all my previous custom exhausts, only loud when I wanted it to be and no drone on the highway. I'm gonna side with what everyone else says, you should save up and get a decent/proven exhaust to avoid disappointment.
replace resonators with straights and replace the 2ndary cats with high-flows, should cost no more than 500-600. But don't expect a dramatic difference because it still depends on the engine.
For best sounding exhaust bro, you drill those speed holes in your muffler for extra bro tones, you create more turbulence, thus creating more horsepower.
i drive an e90 too and yeah i had a loud exhaust before.
but in the end it's back to stock now, cause i realize that there really is no point. it'll get annoying after a while, and it won't make your car faster. attracts more attention from cops, and honestly, loud exhausts on slow cars is just dumb.
it's a 3 series. it's meant for comfort and luxury and handling, these are not 'fast' cars (335's are another story..).
but of course everyone's different but that's how i felt about it after a few months of loud exhaust. still your decision in the end!
if you really want to know i did a muffler delete.
I have an e92 328i. Bmw performance exhaust has some gains and awesome sound. I plan to do secondary cat delete as it has proven dyno gains from e90post members (approx 10hp/10tq) and enhances the bmw pe even more. Aircare most likely will shut down at the end of its current contract.
328i is not a fast or slow car but definitely decent. I have a manual with euro intake and flashed ecu. I have been able to keep up neck/neck stock g37s. I dynoed at 223.6whp and 203.1wtq at evolution auto

328 with 240hp keeping up with 33xhp car with 7 speed auto?
