I'm actually surprised a white guy with dreads was able to do anything at a decent competency level other than smoke weed.

So I was riding yesterday home from work, Richmond to Van at rush hour (you know how that goes on the bridges etc. Poor bike felt like it was overheating from the stop and go.

I get off the oak st bridge look down and i see a FI light, wonder if it was gonna turn off from overheating or smth but no water temp light or anything else. Couple km down the road the FI light goes off then come back on with a complete loss of power. This happens on and off the entire limp ride home.

I checked the FI code and it was 52
Quote:
52 Stick Coil #2*
The stick coil primary winding must send signals continuously to
the ECU. If the stick coil #2 primary winding has failures (no signal, wiring short or open), the ECU shuts off the injector #2 to stop fuel to the cylinder #2, though the engine keeps running.
Which i read through forums etc and was suggested a new stick coil was in place. No biggie one off ebay was only 30 bucks.

Ordered that, next morning decided to see if bike would start normally and it did. Rode around for a hour regularly and no issues.

Is a stick coil failure coming soon or should I refund the ebay part before it ships pretty soon?

I'm not familiar with what a stick coil is, but perhaps it was overheating? I'd still replace it but keep the old one as a spare.

Have you talked to a mechanic to see if that is a common problem for your bike at the mileage that it is at?

It's $30, think of it as insurance in case it goes.

So since the previous incident, i've ridden about 200km, mostly gently with short bursts of fun with no issues at all. Today I took it on a UBC/Spanish banks blast and behold; FI light pops on with same low power scenario. Limped it to spanish banks parking lot and let it rest for a bit, fired it up rode it gently all the way home. Again FI light intermittent.

Checked code again, and its 52.

Luckily my stick coil (bike coil pack) just arrived at PR. Its actually for a Ninja 650 but praying its the same as my 400. (No service manual for my Ninja 400 available online)

I think my noisy motorbikes they mean Harley Davidsons with straight pipes. I live a block off from Hwy 97, literally gangs of them rolling down the street, usually when i'm trying to put my kids to bed. F*** sakes. Loud pipes don't save lives, not riding like a dick does.

Those stands would make life so much easier parking my bike in front of my car at my condo, since I have to put both into one parking stall.

Easy to say as an armchair quarterback but you should try to train yourself to tuck your arms into your body if you go down again like that. Like I said it's easy for me to sit here and say that especially when things happen so fast in that scenario.
