CHILLIWACK (NEWS1130) – It has been a day of chaos on the roads in Chilliwack.

A car went off the road and rolled on Highway 1 at the Annis Rd. overpass, a man and a woman in the vehicle took off on foot. Eastbound traffic was closed while officers investigated.

A short time later a motorcycle traveling in the fast lane eastbound on Highway 1, roughly two kilometres west of the original crash, approached the stopped traffic and slammed on his brakes. He was unable to stop, lost control of the motorcycle, and veered into the path of an SUV which was in the slow lane. The motorcyclist, a 72-year-old man from Pitt Meadows, died at the scene. The two people inside the SUV weren’t hurt.

Investigators say weather and road conditions don’t appear to be factors, but traffic condition, speed, mechanical defects on the motorcycle and driver inattention haven’t been ruled out.

Officers continue to investigate the fatal crash and are asking witnesses to call Cst. Peter Ostrom at the Fraser Valley Traffic Services Office at 604-702-4039.

Tire flies off pickup truck, severely injuring motorcyclist
A 62-year-old Kelowna man has a severely injured left leg
The Canadian Press August 14, 2013 10:26 am

1Share
KELOWNA (NEWS1130) – A flying truck tire has left a 62-year-old West Kelowna motorcyclist with a severely injured left leg.

The unidentified man was hit late Tuesday afternoon as he rode his Harley Davidson north on Highway 97, between Oyama and Winfield, about 25 kilometres north of Kelowna.

Witnesses say the impact tossed the victim off his machine.

They say the rear, driver’s side wheel of a Dodge pickup truck was flung into traffic and spun past the southbound truck before skipping into the oncoming lanes, ramming the motorcycle.

The 53-year-old Manitoba man driving the truck was not hurt.

Investigators say the truck tire had been replaced about a week earlier.

I sense lawsuit for shop that changed the tire/rim.

I will be out in the rain soon after work. First time after all the work was done on mine (including new rear tire). Now we can see if my rear fender works, or is a useless POS

So I'm thinking of getting a 2013 abarth ( not a '14 unless they unveil a nice interior upgrade etc) I've been dicking around with old cars for years, I think it's time I get a new one and enjoy working a/c lol. Only thing is I might have to sell my ruckus as a downpayment. I'd obviously prefer to keep both.

Thoughts?

drove the abarth a few days ago, it was pretty cool but not worth the price at all imo. i tried a new gti it felt much better than the abarth in every respect. fully loaded abarth is around 32, and you can pick up a fully loaded gti for like 35 now if you manage to find a remaining 2013 and talk the price down. just some food for thought.

A pretty loaded abarth comes up to only 27. There's lots more to consider than just price though.

Cooper s is close, but build quality is shit and repair costs are high
Mazdaspeed 3 is close, but insurance and fuel and size are all more
Gti costs more, and is pretty damn heavy (I'd much prefer an old mk1)

All cars to consider, but I loved the smaller car so much I'd like to stick with another small city car again. Plus dealer hook ups should really help drop the price

Keep in mind that the Abarth is practically a 2seater. Sit in the back and see for yourself. I'm big on small cars too but as an all around package, i'd have to go with the GTI. It's much much more comfortable too!
