But under hard braking, the bike will just want to sit straight up. In order to do an evasive maneuver he would have had to let go of the brakes completely. It just goes against all your instincts to let go of the brakes in that situation. | I had that once on my ruck. Sweeping left turn (i know the turn as i do it twice a day) took it at full throttle, which was about 71km/h and decided to slow mid turn. Immediately realized i was about to go wide to the ditch... Backed of the brakes and dug my knee down deep. Scraped half the left peg off in the second half of the turn Posted via RS Mobile |

Just picked up a new bike.
I am having an issue with the front brakes. There simply is just no front braking power. The pads and rotors look fine. There is a bit of resistance when squeezing the brake but not how it should be. I can touch my knuckles with the lever.
We bled the brakes but it didn't help at all. The brake cable has frays on it. Do you think that the cables might be need to be changed or does it sound like the brake assembly itself. (pistons?)
So, my rear brake feels like my front, and the front will slow me down but not stop in an emergency like they should. I already had a close call with being cut off and my back brakes just locked up on me and I almost plowed into the guy.
Thanks, and here couple pics.

| There shouldn't be a brake cable, your brakes master is hydraulic. It's odd though, again old brake lines stretch and expand over time. I would inspect the condition of the rubber lines. Next would be inspect the calipers, if the pistons inside the calipers have not been regularly cleaned out and pushed back in each time you change your brake pads, over time dirt and grime could build up and cause the pistons inside your calipers to seize.
Check your brake pads for residue from fork oil and your rotors. If the previous owner had leaky for seals the brake pads and rotors could have been at one point drenched in fork oil. This compromises the performance of both pad an rotor.
Again this is all just speculation. You'd have to start at the most basic level and back track and work your way up until the issue is diagnosed and fixed.

clamp your brake hoses at the caliper and see if your still having this issue, it could be your master cylinder is bypassing if it still happens when your hoses are clamped

Here is another good read from RideApart The Sportbike Progression: Everyman?s Path To Panigale | RideApart
Think of a simple 1-10 scale, with 1 being a straight road in the middle of nowhere and no traffic and 10 being a good track on a good day. A good mountain road on an ideal day would be around number 7 or 8. That Ninja 650 will be an ideal tool for the job from numbers 1 to 7. The Panigale only works at 11. No learning occurs at 11, only do or die.
