Friday - beautiful and warm and bikes everywhere
Saturday - pouring with rain, 4-5 degrees and wind : I insure my bike and take it for service... horrific experience riding in traffic with blowing rain and wind
Sunday - beautiful and warm and bikes everywhere

I find it funny that the nice weather brakes just long enough for a billion gallons of water to be dumped on me when I ride for the first time this year.

Good news - bike is ready to go and fully serviced.

Who stocks Yamaha parts?
I'm hoping to pick up a set of piston rings tomorrow/ASAP if possible, don't want to wait for shipping.
Bike is an '81 so I'm trying my luck

You're going to be hard pressed to find anything, best bet is to source something out on the internet, and even then parts will be scarce for a motorcycle that age.

You may have to go to a Yamaha dealership and have them bring something in for you, if it's even available. That or find out the dimensions of the rings and buy something of similar specifications. It ain't going to be an easy task

I would strongly recommend you call around, especially to shops that restore/work on older bikes. They maybe able to offer the breadth of knowledge/experience you require.

Added fly screen, frame sliders, fender eliminator and tank grips but still haven't had a chance to ride it more then a bunch of times to work. The weekends it has been nice I've been to busy tires or the bike aren't even broken in yet........

What are they for? a RD?

Dealer you'll pay $100+ per, and they very likely will have to order them in anyway. Ebay can be much cheaper if you get lucky. I'd go OEM only though, haven't liked the aftermarket ones I've seen.

edit: if it's not a RD the price may be cheap enough to warrant getting them locally if they actually can, probably around $25 per online though

Yeah, XJ650 so I'm looking at $27 per on yamahapartsnation, reasonable.

That's not bad then. I saw 81 yamaha needing rings and assumed it would be a 2-stroke (rd350lc).

How do you like the snakeskin grips? Been thinking about getting some but have never seen them in person.

When they arrived they seemed really thick and wasn't to sure. Once installed they we're better then they appeared, makes it really easy to grip the tank with my legs and stop me from sliding into the seat. The grip is really decent, can't complain.

I run both, I haven't had police hassle me around. As long as your plate is clearly visible it's fine. Just don't have it tucked all the way in your wheel well or bend it, you should be fine.

I've created a sub forum for journals etc, specifically for bikes. I've also moved the lets see your ride thread in there as well. Feel free to post up a journal of your own as well., pics, etc.

I've had to pull out my bike's manual to show an officer who was trying to give me a ticket for my completely stock signals and plate. I keep everything stock for that reason.
Yes it doesn't look as good, but police like to target bikes and I can't see the back of my bike when I'm riding it.

ive been running home depot eliminators since I started never been hassled about it. If you run DIY eliminators be sure to buy a strip of LEDs to light up the plate, easy DIY wiring.

Ive heard very few cops care about it, i hear that theres one cop (set of cops?) in downtown Granville area who look out specifically for eliminators/modded bikes so just be mindful of that.
