Hopefully the publicity about this picks up a bit more
I never knew there was a larger majority of people that also had to put up with this horseshit Posted via RS Mobile |

I've always been skeptical of how DPS would hold up in court, pegging a ticket on someone. Without hard evidence it seems very unlikely.

anyway i was pretty glad to see these stories get more airtime thru the news. hopefully the fact that it's on the news changes things - though after dps has been fucking people for so long, i'm pretty doubtful Posted via RS Mobile |

It sounds like these cases are resolved only when people actually don't pay or complain about them not being true. Maybe DPS is hoping to actually make a profit by imposing these mass amount of tickets and a small % of them paying? Idk what they are thinking but this shit is getting serious and I'm liking it |

Posted via RS Mobile | Bad luck is the main thing. On the end of the observer, it would be warranted, because he doesn't see it while strolling the lot. However, being forced to pay because he was lining up to get a ticket is ridiculous.
I didn't read back a few pages, so I'm not sure how that case ended, but what I would have done is to get revs to get it cleared up. Hell, ask them about their security footage. Pretty sure they would have a camera towards the counter.

lol @ the lawyer
Question, if they're not real officers, what gives them the right to touch your car, lift up your windshield wiper and slip in a ticket? Private property that they're touching is it not?

I'm not a lawyer, but as long as you aren't vandalizing it or altering it, you're allowed to touch anything on public property. Plus technically, you're on their property. You don't have to be a police officer to touch something in public, it's within your rights.
In private however, even police officers would need a warrant.
I researched a bit when looking up public photography laws, and as big as Canada is on privacy, you aren't allowed much when you're out in public.

I have half a mind to go to every diamond lot in my area and post a big sign "Dear customers, you have no legal obligation to pay to any tickets issued from Diamond Parking"

The lawyer didn't address the fact that sure, you may not have to pay the ticket, but you would risk being towed if you parked in a lot run by that company, much like what happens for UBC parking.

not like customer service is their priority | It's quite obvious that their business plan is a "carrot and stick" philosophy.
They make their money on the hourly rate. The stick, in this case is the threat of a ticket for walking off the lot, which is why they have the attendants.
They'll cancel any ticket with a semi-reasonable complaint purely for the idea that they don't want a bunch of bad publicity. Enough people do pay the tickets that its a nice icing on the cake.

Canvas an entire area or send a mass email and make money off the select few who catch the bait.

He's actually scouting to see where people park and where they walk into.
