Having said that, Lamar is a genius for being able to negotiate a contract extension to become the highest paid QB without an agent.

His Mama deserves a tonne of credit for being his official rep for contract extensions.

I hope that Lamar paid his Mom well for all her hard work! LUL

FYI: This is how much money that Lamar saved from not having to pay commission to an agent.

Per the Washington Post, agents will receive between 1.5 percent and up to 3 percent, which is the maximum for contracts.

For Jackson, that means he could have lost up to $7.8 million to an agent, if he were to lose 3 percent of the full $260 million. He also could have lost a minimum of $2,775,000, had he lost 1.5 percent of the $185 million.

On the contract but he's probably lost a lot more than that in potential endorsements that an agent would have had incentives to go out and seek for him, pretty sure he's taking a net negative on not using an agent just based on other things he's missing out on and doesn't understand nor should he because it's not his field.

Dak is out there with a huge bag from Nike, nobody going to convince me that Nike wouldn't have wanted Lamar rocking the Jordan's around the field. He also is endorsed by Albertson's, AT&T, Beats, Direct TV, Frito, Pepsi, Anheuser Busch probably makes as much from that stuff as he does from football.

As my boss would say, Lamar is watching the pennies and the dollars are rolling out the door.

Hey SkinnyPupp, is AB going to bring his circus act to the Ravens? :troll:

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/a...ome-questions/

Less than two months after saying that he had retired, Antonio Brown announced on Friday that he plans to resume his NFL career. The four-time All-Pro wideout said that he plans to play for the Ravens, the team that formally employed his younger cousin, Marquise Brown.

"Excited to return to the NFL this year," Brown wrote on Twitter while posting a photo of himself in a Ravens uniform.

whitev70r 04-28-2023 12:21 PM

^AB is good for about 6-7 games and then he will go berzerk, strip, and walk out of a game because OBJ is getting more balls thrown his way :lol.

SkinnyPupp 04-28-2023 02:29 PM

Oh wtffffff LOL

I always had a feeling this was going to happen. There have been rumblings here and there every time he's about to get fired from a team, since he and Lamar are friends

Everyone was against it... At first I thought if any team could have him buttoned down, it's the Ravens, but I thought it was far too risky. And that was before the whole blowup with Tom Brady. After that I was like no fn way

Fucking hilarious is all I can say. Pretty scary

All that being said, he's the only one who says he's playing for them, so AFAIK he hasn't been signed LUL

So how are you guys liking your teams after the draft and a few more days of free agency? I'm not sure what everyone's teams are, although I know we have 1 or 2 Pats fans (and full respect for that)

I like the Pats' first round pick. -sounds like Gonzalez is quite athletic.

The CB, Cornerback position, can be volatile though in the NFL.

Christian Gonzalez NFL Draft Profile
Position: Cornerback
School: Oregon
Current Year: Junior
Height/Weight: 6foot’1″, 197 pounds
Arm Length: 32″
Hand Size: 9 1/2″

Athleticism pours through the Gonzalez bloodline. Christian’s father played college basketball at UTEP and semiprofessionally in Columbia. His two older sisters ran track and were All-Americans in the 400 hurdles and 4—400 relay. So it’s no surprise Gonzalez is a gifted athlete as well.

Vikings didn't have much to work with as far as draft capital. The receiver they drafted in the first should be a nice compliment to Justin Jefferson. I'm a huge Thielen fan but he's just too slow today, I was sad to see him go but understood it.

The Vikings most glaring issue is defense, they had the actual worst defense in the NFL last season and they haven't done a lot to address it as far as personal goes. What they will get is a bunch of injured rookies back that should help but they got rid of their Def. Coach who might have been the worst in the NFL and brought in Flores who should be a huge upgrade.

I really don't know what to expect from this team, could be 7 wins or 12, time will tell.

Which QB do you know has more endorsement deals than Lamar? How does he compare to Joe Burrow or Josh Allen?

I see this take a lot, but nobody really has any idea what they're talking about. Do you think he wants to do more endorsements but couldn't find them? Or maybe he's been doing the right amount of endorsements along with working on being an MVP tier quarterback? Maybe even too many? How do you know that he wants to do more, and if so, he'd need an agent to find work? It's absurd.

He's done several big national endorsements, including Visa, Epic, Oakley, and a Madden cover. But most of what he does is for local Black run businesses in his neighbourhood, at a discounted rate. That's how he chose to spend his promotional time, giving back to the community. Maybe an agent would have found him a lucrative State Farm deal or something, but I doubt that would lead to a meaningful improvement on his way of life. He's a low key guy anyway, not really the type to be a spokesperson or actor. When he showed up at an AEW show in Baltimore, he looked like he wanted to crawl out of his skin when the camera was on him lol

Not everyone is as talented as Baker Mayfield Kappa

This is just one of those talking points that the media threw out, because they don't understand the guy. They don't listen to what he says or look at what he does, they just talk shit like if they know what they're talking about, and people latch on because they don't see it any other way but their own.

Nothing against you btw, I just keep seeing this lately, as the goalposts moved yet again trying to say what a bad idea this was, despite the dude getting the biggest contract ever along with a no tag and no trade, with no agent. It's one of those things that "makes sense" on the surface if you don't think about it too much. But if you consider for a bit, it is just another made up story that gets repeated.

That's a fair take but I also think it's fair to say that money is pretty damm important to Lamar, if it wasn't he wouldn't avoid things like an agent and taking a deal with less guaranteed.

Lamar is a hell of a football player and that's his job, it's not an unreasonable conclusion that he isn't going to have the contacts or the time to seek out some of the more lucrative endorsement deals that an agent who does that day in and day out does.

He did end up getting a really good contract, he could have gotten the same contract with an agent minus the media circus and drama the last year, any money he paid to an agent would have been more than made up on the endorsement side. Sure Lamar has endorsements but no way to the same level he'd have with an agent, we can argue it but it's impossible for either of us to prove our side because he doesn't have an agent.

Why spend your time worrying about things like contracts when you can have someone do that for you and concentrate all your efforts on football. It doesn't make sense to me but you're right, Lamar is a different kind of dude and it makes sense to him.

Let me ask you this and it's not directly related to the contract but it's correlated, as a Ravens fan how did you feel about Lamar not showing up to the playoff game putting himself and his personal situation above his teammates when he's supposed to be the leader in that room? Second to that question, do you think that's something that most QB's in the league would do contract dispute or not?

I think the main point I'm making is the guy is different... The team has said so many times, respectfully. He obviously cares about money, but less obvious is how much he wants to do a bunch of endorsements and TV commercials.

Obviously he thought it was worth it to not have an agent, and the media circus didn't convince him otherwise, despite him acknowledging that issue. Does that make him an "idiot" or a "spoiled brat" or some other things I won't even repeat? I don't think so. Just different. More players are doing that anyway, and the fact that he got a contract with good money and good terms might convince more to do it this way.

As for him getting injured and not traveling with the team, just like any injured player, I am fine with that. Even though the media circus tried to make something out of it, including suggesting out of nowhere that he could have played, which I can imagine really pissed him off. He wasn't in a contract dispute at the time, he was playing on his rookie contract.

Tremendous

mikemhg 05-12-2023 11:57 AM

Go sports :lol

SkinnyPupp 05-26-2023 03:46 PM

So who gets him?

Patriots and Ravens were in the mix trying to trade for him, but his existing contract was an issue for them

He listed the QBs he wants to play with several weeks ago on a podcast, and they were Josh Allen, Jalen Hurts, Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, and Justin Herbert.

I'm thinking the Bills will try very hard to get him, but the Patriots, Eagles, Chargers, Ravens all have more way cap space to work with. Patriots have the most, but it's not by much. All around 12-14m. Chiefs and Bills are effectively in the red right now (but have time to make cuts), and would have to do a lot of work to make room.

mikemhg 05-27-2023 09:31 AM

Hoping he goes to the Ravens.

SkinnyPupp 07-16-2023 02:57 PM

DHop goes to the Titans, so the rest of the AFC can breathe a sigh of relief. He won't be making a good team better.

quasi 07-17-2023 02:44 PM

So what's everyone's take on all these disgruntle running backs? At least 3 pissed they are getting franchised, Jacobs, Barkley and Pollard another 4 who still haven't signed yet because they feel they are worth more than what's being offered in Cook, Hunt, Elliott and Fournette.

My take is the cap is what it is, owners and players negotiate this number every time their collective agreement is up so the pie is the pie. Obviously the running back position is seen as easily replaceable or not as valuable right now so they've cut their piece of the pie in half and split that between the quarterbacks and the wide receivers.

Some of these guys have to be careful, we seen how well it worked for Bell when he held out, there is always someone out there willing to work for a smaller piece.

SkinnyPupp 07-17-2023 04:04 PM

Yeah the market just isn't there for RBs, and the career longevity isn't there. I feel kind of bad for these guys (at least compared to other NFL positions).. who wants to be an RB?

Bender Unit 07-17-2023 09:04 PM

When the SB winner can use a 7th round pick rookie Isiah Pacheco as their primary RB.
nobody will pay for High Price old RB anymore

rather invest in other postions.

mikemhg 07-18-2023 11:41 AM

Scrap the position then, 10 on 10 football? :lol

Who would want to play as a RB nowadays if you're in college? Seems like a shitty straw to pull if you're put into that position.

Oh poor Le'Veon, he ONLY made $45 million in 8 years playing

And since he didn't take enough headshots in the NFL, he decided to take up boxing instead........

Cry me a river lol

-speaking of contract extension talks for running backs....

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Saquon Barkley and the New York Giants failed to reach an agreement on a long-term contract extension by Monday’s deadline for franchised players, leaving the star running back with the option of playing for the tag-mandated $10.1 million salary or maybe taking the season off.

The Giants gave the franchise tag to the 26-year-old Barkley in March, giving the two sides four months to reach an agreement on a new deal by the July 17 deadline at 4 p.m. Talks went down to the wire and an agreement was not reached.

Either Saquon plays with the franchise tag or takes the season off?

Bender Unit 07-19-2023 02:05 PM

*2022 was a 7th round pick Rookie.
** Percy Harvin wasn't even a RB. He was a WR.

This chat told everything

GGnoRE 07-20-2023 08:26 AM

Honestly, if you had the skills and talent, you wouldn't choose to play RB over a WR as a young player in the skill position. WRs have much higher ceiling for skill expression compared to RBs who rely mostly on raw athletic ability and durability as opposed to a WR who require mastery of route tree running, ability to create separation, acrobatic ability to highpoint the ball over a defender, hand-eye coordination etc. RBs have the highest transferability from success in college to production in pro creating a stable surplus supply in labour economics sense. Their success is also much more driven by the of coach's zone scheme, O-line's ability to create gaps, and QB's arm threat as opposed to the player's ability itself. Didn't even mention shorter shelf-life yet... Outside of Derrick Henry (a freak) and McCaffery (RB who also catches a ton), I wouldn't bother paying top dollars to keep a RB happy.
