Sometimes. Sometimes the ball bounces your way... Good teams do put themselves into a position to capitalize on luck

Also this quote caught my eye

"Dan Campbell hits on 20 when playing blackjack"

Coaches should always be the last ones to take blame for a lost, but he made some questionable calls based on where the scores were at when he made them.

pastarocket 01-28-2024 06:09 PM

Dan Campbell was a bit too aggressive in his play calls.

1 for 3 on fourth down.

Missed two big ones in the second half.

Why not go for the field goal? The Lions have a good kicker.

NFC finals - Detroit played with a lot of heart at SF's home stadium, came out fast and hard. 49'ers also showed a lot of poise, coming out the 2nd half down 17 pts. They didn't panic, one drive at a time and then finally building enough pts to get the W. How would things have turned out if Campbell went for the FG instead of going for it on 4th down? But yah, hindsight is 20/20. I picked Eminem's boyz to win but SF was better team today.

Good AFC finals as well. Dfence on both sides was fierce. Not sure why Baltimore abandoned their running game and put it all on LJ's hands, shoulders, and legs. He did as much as he could, was leading rusher for the Ravens, got a rare reception from himself !, but that one pick in the End Zone was pretty bad. Flowers was both the hero and the scapegoat, hopefully, he will mature. Didn't help Ravens that Mr. Taylor Swift had a mind-blowing record breaking game. This one has got to sting. Next year maybe a Harbaugh vs. Harbaugh SB again ??

Edit ... can't be a Harbaugh vs. Harbaugh SB, Chargers and Ravens are both in the AFC ... so best it could be is them 2 seeing each other in the AFC Finals, winner goes to SB.

Kelce was crazy good and such a great troll too. Just an absolutely punchable face, and he's on TV all the time and is this big star, but he can back it up with play. He got under Ravens players skin since before the game even started KEKW

Hateable guy, but you would want him on your team for sure lol

I was really excited for a Nigga Bowl, but alas, we get the Honky Bowl.

Sigh..

68style 01-30-2024 12:08 PM

?? Mahomes is only half honky

SkinnyPupp 01-30-2024 01:57 PM

I bet Mahomes has more in common with Purdy and Goff than he does Lamar; all their fathers played pro baseball for instance. Lamar's dad died when he was 8 (heart attack after his mother died earlier that day)

SkinnyPupp 01-30-2024 03:24 PM

Ben Johnson staying in Detroit. This is huge for their offense

68style 01-30-2024 03:47 PM

Is that why Lamar can't read good?

Defences that is... lol sorry... but he didn't look great that game holding onto it for an eternity and overthrowing touch passes

Check out this Kurt Warner tape review of all the 3rd down plays (you'll have to click through and watch from youtube)

(this isn't to argue, but if you have half an hour to burn, it's a great watch and very informative for fans as it's literally impossible to know everything that is going on just watching on TV)

Oh boy here we go, 103 minutes of Ravens offensive plays from the championship loss... Am I masochistic or just want to better understand what went wrong?

https://i.imgur.com/tHGTe8v.png

Edit: I actually feel a bit better after that, considering the narrative going around. The main thing I didn't notice at first was how bad Likely and Hill were in pass protection. Or more that the Chiefs defense went and had the game of their lives (and we already knew they were great). Hill had some game losing misses blocking, but they don't stand out as much as Lamar's misses or Zay's bad plays.

Also could have run the ball more obviously. Also Andrews was at maybe 30%. He was so slow. Sadge

Mike MacDonald to Seattle as HC, becomes the youngest NFL HC @ 36 ... big loss for the Ravens.

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/...cdonald-ravens

SkinnyPupp 01-31-2024 06:07 PM

Big loss, and fans are fucking freaking out even more than the championship game loss. But they always have someone ready to come up. It was supposed to be Jesse Minter, but he's going to the Chargers with Jim

It'll likely be Anthony Weaver, who is Mike MacDonald's guy and can continue the same system. Weaver has actually already been getting DC interviews, so I'd expect them to sign him soon.

Their other candidates are (were) Zach Orr (who has been getting DC interviews as well) and Dennard Wilson (who was just hired by the Titans a moment ago). They'll be OK I think. Losing a coach sucks, but the players always matter more. Then again, losing everyone at once might actually hurt a lot, we'll see.

I won't be surprised if free agent Patrick Queen signs with Seattle to relpace Bobby Wagner. He played extremely well along side Roquan, but really struggled before that. Trenton Simpson should replace him, and he showed a lot of promise this year, especially in the Steelers game at the end of the season. Actually shockingly good.

whitev70r 01-31-2024 06:38 PM

It's the price a team pays for success. Other teams come ravaging your coaching staff. It is a huge loss because it often takes years to develop a system and for players to learn and succeed in it. This sets the Ravens back a couple of notches.

Lots of Ravens D free agents ... who might follow him to Seattle.

SkinnyPupp 01-31-2024 07:05 PM

Queen, Madubuike, Stone are the big names in terms of top of depth chart guys going. Stone is the most likely to stay out of the 3. We all wish Beeks could stay but he's going to get paiiiiiiiiiiiiid somewhere else, as will PQ.

Roquan is a lifer, and they still have Hamilton and Humphrey, so the core is there. Marcus Williams is there another year, and he's been good despite playing all year with a torn pec.

Clowney worked out great as a 1 year prove it, and might have earned another shot at a big payday, but he never really worked as consistently anywhere other than here on all these other prove it deals lol. KVN was a veteran rental who also worked out well, but the Ravens are great at replacing them with other veterans that produce.

SkinnyPupp 02-01-2024 02:09 PM

They went with Zach Orr!

https://i.redd.it/nuu8najbk0gc1.jpeg

Undrafted free agent linebacker for the Ravens for 2 seasons, he had to retire due to spine/neck issues. He tried to come back in 2017, but nobody wanted to take a chance on him.

Ravens brought him in as a defensive analyst, to start his path in coaching. He coached (linebackers coach) for the Jaguars during their Urban Meyer season, then came back to Baltimore to coach the linebackers, helping Smith and Queen dominate. This was of course within Mike MacDonald's system.

Very quick path to DC. Packers were interested too, but with the Rooney Rule, you unfortunately never know how much a team is actually interested.

whitev70r 02-02-2024 09:15 AM

The most exciting weekend of the NFL season ... the Pro Bowl. :concentrate:

SkinnyPupp 02-03-2024 03:30 PM

Coach hiring fireworks! Reports that Ben Johnson was "turned off" by Commanders ownership, that they're "basketball guys" and felt they were a little too confident in their football opinions.

Then reports came out from the other side that "he didn't interview well" so they didn't want him anyway (bullshit lol)

So they got Dan Quinn, which... Well they went for experience this time, I guess.

They have their superstar GM, the #2 pick and cap space, but I still have a bad feeling about this. When stuff like this comes out - leaks of them being bad, and then response leaks trying to put down the guy they didn't get - it's not a good look.

BTW Anthony Weaver ended up with the Dolphins as their DC. So the Ravens lose all 3 defensive guys, but get to keep one as their new DC. I'm not too concerned - like someone said, good teams are basically coach farms, and develop guys constantly. Losing everyone at once though, a bit scary.

whitev70r 02-04-2024 07:35 AM

I don't think I've seen a year where there is SO much movement in the OC and DC positions. HC's yah, of course, after the final week of the season, 5-6 usually get the axe. But all the news and buzz around OC and DC moving around ... seems like the HC's job is to snag a good OC and DC. WTH does a HC do after you got those 2 key positions dialed in.

Of course, it becomes obvious eventually if a OC or DC is a good head coach. Some should just stay in that role. And seeing lots of fired HC go back to being a DC or OC, which got them success in the past. I think a fired HC is a good choice for OC or DC. Klingsbury seems to be the last one available as OC?

SkinnyPupp 02-04-2024 04:32 PM

Kliff Kingsbury to Commandos after the Raiders backed off of talks

That team is going to be highly interesting to follow

whitev70r 02-04-2024 04:51 PM

Didn't Ben Johnson say that the Commanders were a bunch of 'basketball guys' ...

Kingsbury looked like he was going to Vegas, was in talks with the Raider about $$ & terms and then he said, 'Eff you' ...

so much drama !!

Yeah it seems like Johnson, when he does get into head coaching, wants to be on a team that doesn't have meddling ownership. He's built up enough rep to be able to demand that, and can wait another year trying to run it back with the Lions

whitev70r 02-04-2024 09:14 PM

C'mon family members of Chiefs players and coaches ... keep your shit together before the SB!
