Carly was most likely 1-2 like it has always been since week 1 of the live shows. Her first performance wasn't the greatest either but still got 2nd. I don't see people voting for 5th harmony over Carly but I guess we'll never know.
well technically speaking, 5th Harmony have 5 x the family, 5 x the friends and 5 x the community support that Carly probably has
not saying they deserve it or not, just saying it purely from a numbers standpoint

I wasn't convinced with Hallelujah through two verses because that's another one of those songs that should be sung...quietly? I guess like Imagine and I didn't think it would work well with Carly's ridiculous voice but third verse, she goes into a different key and BOOM...my head explodes. Amazing. The most famous versions of this song by Leonard Cohen and Jeff Buckley are still better but wow.
I get the feeling she isn't going to win, though...both because LeAnn Rimes ruined that performance and she has talent but she doesn't have a sound of her own.

The more I watch back, the more I actually think that Carly probably wasn't ready.
She has a huge powerful voice, but really, she's just too young. She doesn't know how to control her voice to her advantage. Her natural instinct is to belt all the time, and it seems like she doesn't know how to hold back. It really showed in her Christmas performance tonight and her past couple weeks. Her softer, tender singing sounds really forced back. Like she was revving up her rpm's but not shifting, so there's too much pressure in those soft notes.
Regardless, she's only 13 and already better than most. X Factor or no X Factor, she'll have a career in music no question.

Frankly, I'm impressed Carly lasted til the end. I've seen a few of these really young, super-talented ones on other shows (none as good as Carly though, and none as young!) and they don't usually make it much past the top 8-10, simply because of the pressure and the grueling schedule - most of them, they start out having a blast and you realize they're just enjoying the singing, but you can almost see the point where they start to crack, and come out with bad song choices or just butcher a song, and then they're gone.
You can see when she really gets going, she's just getting lost in the performance, and is just blasting out energy everywhere. But as they go along, they start lumping in all the coaching - dress like this, sing like that... look at the camera... do that cheezy reaching-out-to-the-camera thing... it's a lot to think about when you just want to belt out a song you love, and I'm sure it takes a lot of the fun out of it, and with the fun goes a lot of the energy.
I've seen others where you have older singers who have already been in bands and whatnot, and you can see where they start to get fed up with the all the coaching and directing and are basically just singing because, well, they have to... not because they love to. There were at least a couple people like that on that "Rock Star" show - more experienced, killer talent who just quit trying, and it was painfully obvious it was because they weren't enjoying it anymore.
That's the most impressive thing about Carly, besides the raw talent: she took all that in stride, stayed totally grounded, and just kept belting out the tunes, because she loved doing it.
