In terms of equipment, helmets are a major point of contention. I personally wear one, but research shows helmets become almost a moot point when involved in collisions at speeds higher than 15mph. It's great for preventing bumps and bruises, or at worst a concussion, but don't expect to fly at a tree and survive the impact. Your best safety equipment are your eyes and your brain. You won't need a wrist guard. Learn to fall on your forearms, tuck them to your chest and let your whole body take the impact. NEVER stick out your arms to catch yourself unless you want to dislocate your shoulder. Believe me, the wait at the ER will hurt (if you don't freeze to death waiting for your buddy to get Ski Patrol). The one thing you have to accept about snowboarding is that you WILL fall. Dozens of times in a season. Sometimes it's a soft landing, sometimes it's a back breaking scorpion. Don't be afraid of falling. Riding off the lift only comes with experience. The more you ride off the lift, the more you learn to look where you want to go, where to place your back foot, how to maintain balance. If you do fall under the lift, keep that head down, unless you want the chair to swing around and hit your head. Just keep riding man. Lots of things to learn and pick up, just make sure you keep it fun. If you're constantly worried about falling, you're stressing out too much, and you're not having fun. Just let it flow. If you don't push yourself to the point of bailing, you're not progressing. |

I can tell you I've crashed going more than 15mph and I think I'd be a little brain dead if it weren't for my trusty brain bucket. |

My point was that helmets are not the be-all-end-all of head injuries. If you ride well beyond your abilities or your ability to navigate the mountain safely, don't respect the Alpine Code, you can be in a hamster ball and you will still get hurt. I know what you're saying. I'm a helmet user too. it's just, if you just read around the various snowboarding forums out there, there are anti-helmet hardliners that use the 15mph impact rating as one of many reasons helmets don't work. The other primary excuse is that they're adults and they have free will to make the decision NOT to wear helmets. It's a fair, but pretty ridiculous argument. |

They can also easily custom make any board/ski for you. |
Can't wait to go up tomorrow! Anyone know what the conditions are like? |
ya someone wanted to sell me a prior snowboard that was 176, but didnt have bindings and he wanted 150$ =/ |
If you think you are going to find a board and bindings in such a rare size for 150 bucks or less you are dreaming. You missed out on a steal if you passed that up. |
anyone here know a really good pro boot fitter in the GVRD? My ZF1's packed out way too much in the 2 seasons i've used it and I need to eliminate the heel lift bullshit. I'd prefer someone who can take the time to get the boot to fit right... As much as I want to buy fresh boots the Christmas gift giving just won't allow me to, so this is the next best option. I wanna get this done before Jan 4th since im heading up to big white then, and it would be nice if all my gear worked to the tee... THANKS GUYS! |

Dude, that board is worth $200-300 if it is in good condition. It is a very good board. Just man up and scrape up another $100 for bindings. |
