Mmm, "100% polyester microfibre and Polartec® Classic fleece"

Wonder how well that is compared to the one I have which is like a 64% polyester blend and 36% merino wool.

Couldnt find a clear winner online between all polyester/all merino/mix of both.

Gh0stRider 12-18-2012 07:11 PM

cypress was selling the buff, but not sure what version.

Vangruver 12-19-2012 03:10 PM

rode cypress from 0900 to 1300 today

60+cm's in some places, on average 30+cm's everywhere else.

The mountain [at the time] has no power, so everything was being ran on generators or back up engines.

The accumulation of snow with the high winds were incredible, and the inbound avalanches were impressive.

There were cornices that were breaking of even AFTER patrol was cutting certain lines.

The parking lot is a disaster, and the road up is less than ideal. If you don't have chains, or SNOW tires, don't even consider making your way up.

I haven't seen snow like this since 1998

Gh0stRider 12-19-2012 03:20 PM

damn, the snowboarder that just got rescued needs to pay cypress $10,000

ouch.

There was a dog lost in the mount seymour backcountry for two weeks.

This just was emailed from Tim Jones.

Thanks to OHLY(name of dog)'s support we have received just over $10,000 in donations specifically to pay for helicopter time for Talon Helicopters for Dec 8. It was 3.3 hours.

Total Bill $8474.39

Talon donated 1.2 hours on Dec 6 , and I deeply appreciate their continued friendship!!!!

We have approx $1600 left over and the NSR Executive has approved my recommendation and is setting aside this amount for future helicopter time for a dog rescue.

Feel free to share this information.

If anyone has any questions direct them to me. Thanks Tim

Respectfully Tim

rough estimate.

closer to 100g's with mountain operation costs/employee wages cost/North shore search and rescue costs as well.

10grand is a small estimate based on an uneducated guess

Gh0stRider 12-19-2012 05:12 PM

thats crazy! another reason not to go out of bounds. not really worth it if you get stranded.

10,000 represents Cypress Mountain's cost

There was a segment on Global News that talked about how harrowing and dangerous of a situation the SAR crew was put in cause of the guy.

I agree, however there is always going to be that one punter or pair of punters that will go out of bounds because they saw tracks leading to a rad area.

Global BC | Cypress Mountain to bill rescued snowboarder $10,000

"DND documents say the total annual cost per flying hour is $32,232 to operate a Cormorant helicopter"- The Globe and Mail, Sept. 10 2012 .That's the big yellow one in the back in the picture of him getting rescued.

rexsomnii 12-19-2012 05:23 PM

heard on the news that the snowboarder will do it again...

there were also subaru's and audi's that got high centered/stuck even with snow tires.

the one's that won the parking lot battle were actually trucks and suv's.

Till they got on the road heading down. Then they drive like pansies

A month later and its still hucking down in Japan. It just doesn't make any sense. Just a little update of my season up here. Filmed all this in one 4 hour session.

I was up at cypress last night and the snow Was awesome. A tree fell down on cypress road about 3/4 of the way up. They stopped traffic for about 30 minutes to clear the road. It was totally worth the wait.
