It's such a big competition for opening day between cypress and grouse.

i'm sure that the base on either mountain with the 3 runs that they open will be 20+ cm of compacted cement.

TOS'd 11-12-2012 02:30 PM

Seymour was saying they need over 100 cm base to open. Probably wont be for another week at least.

seymour needs a minimum of 90cm to open any of their terrain. They have never spent extravagant amounts of money to summer groom their terrain. As it's a gov't park during their off lease periods they would rather put the money they have elsewhere during the winter.

they also don't have any snow making machines, or much in the way of other facilities that grouse or cypress has.

now remember last year? when cypress had a 30cm base to open the beginning of the season?

now take the 1000's of people that rode that FOOT of snow base, only to have mother nature not cooperating for a couple weeks.

the result?

the shitty mud puddles in the middle of the runs for days on end.

It wasn't worth it for those that traveled far from the fraser valley to spend their money to ride shitty snow.

Seymour has always done something right with their motives, and i know that it doesn't work well with a lot of people.

bluejays 11-12-2012 02:37 PM

Last year Grouse opening week was like 1 bunny hill and a few jibs here and there, cut wasn't even open and there were dirt patches all over the place :failed:

ziggyx 11-12-2012 02:37 PM

:okay: haha. I never been opening day but if people are saying it sucks then I should probably avoid it... but we will see how badly i want to go..

Hey TOS'd/ziggyx was the $250 student pass for Seymour an early bird price if you bought it in September? It's $589 right now.. :okay:

It's still fairly cheap compared to buying an adult season pass. So if you plan to go often it's still worth it. It just sucks missing the early bird price.

westopher 11-12-2012 02:43 PM

Oh everywhere will suck, for a good while. But if you have a seasons pass, why not go kill an hour or so just fucking around? It sucks, but it sucks way less than not snowboarding.

ziggyx 11-12-2012 02:47 PM

^ that's true but I only have a pass to seymour which isn't opening this week lol. Hopefully will be very soon, I just checked seymour's website and they got 26cm in the past 24 hours.

LYC 11-12-2012 02:49 PM

Mammoth opening weekend. Looks like all the big guns showed up.

TOS'd 11-12-2012 02:52 PM

Seymour will forever be my home mountain. I don't mind that they need more time since their snow is natural and they don't have any snow machines up there. Either way, I am excited! Time to put the roof racks on.

i love my roof rack! as soon as the first snow fall happened, i threw them on and my winters. never can be too prepared.

I have no idea how grouse will open tomorrow. Last friday when i looked up there it was totally bare with no snow at all

GabAlmighty 11-12-2012 08:55 PM

Yaaaa... Let's all go wreck our gear in shitty conditions haha.

push snow from the area's that have next to nothing to the areas that have next to something.

plus grouse has snow guns as well.

it's a ageless tactic that mountains do in order to falsify their base measurements.

cypress takes snow that falls onto 3A and 3B lots all the time to falsify their base measurement.

kakucaekz 11-12-2012 09:39 PM

Guess it's time to finally get my skis mounted, and buy new poles. Ones I have now are scratched to shit lol. Gonna head up in a couple weeks, when there's more snow for sure :]

GTO-demon 11-13-2012 12:59 AM

any good recommendations for online shops to buy snowboarding jackets and such?

dont mind shipping to Pt. Roberts

LYC 11-13-2012 01:12 AM

There are tons.

Companies I've personally used in the past are dogfunk, backcountry, thehouse, evo, tactics or rakuten for weird japanese stuff.

Once you've found what you want just google it and find the cheapest price that way. Most of those companies will ship within the usa for free if you spend like 50-100 bucks.

Good Luck.

ziggyx 11-13-2012 08:28 AM

I ordered from tactics. Pretty good experience so far but then i dont shop online much. They called to make sure my card wasnt stolen since the shipping and billing address didnt match up. I had my stuff shipped to point roberts. Another plus was no tax since its from oregon and free shipping within the states after 75 i think?. I didnt get taxed at the border either and i claimed my purchases.

Only downside is that tactics is a bit more limited in selection and sizes compared to evo.com or other places.

But yeah like LYC said shop around.

I ordered a bunch of stuff from the-house.com

They had good selection of gear and had great deals on their 2012 stock. There were a lot of 20-30% off-in-cart discounts and on top of that there was another 5% off with the coupon code RETMENOT5.

westopher 11-13-2012 11:59 AM

You guys can get stuff locally for pretty much the same price. I'd rather spend my money at local shops than spend it in the states to save 15 bucks on a 300 dollar jacket, that you don't even get to look at in person. That said the last years gear that you can find online you probably won't find here, but if you can get it here, support your local shops.

TOS'd 11-13-2012 12:06 PM

Which place do you guys use to ship stuff to PR?

Simplex123 11-13-2012 12:12 PM

TSB. Their prices adjust according to the size of your parcel. The lineups there are now significantly shorter than before as well. I think it's because most people park their car at the boarder and walk across the to closer company. I don't mind driving over since I have a nexus pass.

Gonna go to Mount Baker a few times this season to put my nexus to good use
