Evan's for fish and chips and The Canteen for dinner are musts. |
Cactus I feel is pretty standard fare and the consistency is pretty on ball almost every time. Also in case no one knows, FYI, Earls and Cactus is owned by the same family. Earls was part owner of Cactus and ended up buying out the other family. Quote:

I assume Black and Blue is still under the same umbrella, if so that's pretty good. IMO they have steaks that compete with Gotham and Hy's. Up there with Elisa as among the best steaks in van. |
Things are pretty bad out there.... I managed to get a table at Published last Saturday night the same day....some poor millennial asshole must have cancelled because he had to cover his higher mortgage payments :concentrate: |
I've never got a good steak at Black and Blue. They even had the nerve to tell me my beef wellington has to be well done. |
Black & Blue is no bueno. Overpriced and not great tasting. |
Steaks are one of those things I don't really get when I'm out. Like, I can cook one as good or better at home than any restaurant. My sister had her wedding party at Elisa last year. Pretty much had a bit of every steak on the menu, none struck out to me as any better than what I can cook for myself. Now, that tartare and carpaccio, that was way more interesting to me. |
Really black and blue gone downhill? I havent been since pre-pandemic. It used to be good. To each their own if you think you can cook it better yourself. last time i was at B&B I had their wagyu, and I've had the wagyu and multiple other steaks at Elisa. I actually thought the wagyu I had at B&B was better than Elisa, but these can also be one off things. I mean it could also vary on how I feel, how much I drink, my remembering of the whole evening, etc. On the whole Elisa is i'd say the more consistent place with a good steak, I mean way more consistent than Hy's or Gotham, which consistently miss the mark both in terms of menu, shitty service, and also just having shitty customers. Last time I was at gothams, just having to tolerate the other entitled little bitch customers complaining about everything from the valet to the table not being ready made me want to kill myself. Not to mention all these ugly ass hoes out there thinking they are hot shit. God damn i've gotten so old, going out at night downtown and seeing these losers think they are so cool actually makes me lose my patience so hard. |
Vancouver share food pics before you eat your dinner thread |
I went to black & blue for a bachelor party. Still Creek Keg was better imo. I think it was Hy's that's also owned by the Keg. I went with my parents for my mom's birthday a few years back, again I would pick the Keg over Hy's even though they are from the same parent company. Also what meme405 said, Glowbal group overall is not good imo, hence why I put Cactus quite high in my books. The group that Cactus owns has a few other restaurants as well, there's one at Park Royal I went to, but I forgot how it was. |
I've been to B&B about 5 times over the past 10 yrs. Last time was probably 2019 for my wifes xmas party and everyone thought it was shit. I try to give it a shot but it's been a let down every time. Much like Great68, I can cook a mean steak ever since I got my Anova/cast iron so ordering 1 when I'm out is pretty rare, pardon the pun. |

I like Hy’s Hy’s seems to feel too fancy for all the mainlanders that bring their stupid kids to Gotham and let them run around. Like ffs this wouldn’t even fly at red robin ya fucking clowns |

Everyone sucks. Especially my fuck face Cobb salad lunch. I hate you HR mandated healthy lunch. What is this ? Liberal autocracy?!?! Stop taking away all my junk food. |
Just don’t bring your screaming kids to restaurants. |
Speaking of steak, did any of you ever go to the Brave Bull on Hastings/Clark? That was a classic. The location was sold to a real estate developer so it's still on topic. https://vancouversun.com/news/metro/...lls-last-stand |

I remember she told me that they didn't raise their prices all these years because they didn't want to have to print new signs. |
I didn't want to love it since I hate the Acquilinis, but damn Elisa is the best steakhouse in the city. I feel like their steaks in combination with the sides simply blow B&B, Keg, and Hy's out the water. Special mention to the Short Rib there, whew, heaven. Eye candy and people watching is great there too. So many sugar babies and escorts abound. |

I get I'm gonna sound like a cunt here, but I can't imagine paying money for people to cook a steak and some sides. It's literally the easiest thing on the planet to make at home. Like, a baked potato and some shit ass feedlot Alberta sirloin is gonna cost me $50 at the keg, then some shitty ass Rickards red for $9 a pint, or I could grab a potato for $.99 and a dry aged strip from two rivers for $17 that is eleventy billion times better and have money left over for a 4 pack of superflux. I get people don't do this for a living, but it takes 10 minutes to cook a steak, and 6 minutes to rest it. Buy a meat thermometer if you aren't confident. Pull it out 10 degrees Fahrenheit lower than you want it and rest it. I love going out for a meal, but there is nothing quicker and easier than a steak. I know atmosphere is part of it, but fuckin hell if Cactus or the keg offers that. Listening to Ke$ha or nickleback while I have my meal isn't my idea of ambiance. |
fuck it I'm just going to buy a cow |
