^ However, that delay of over a year comes at a time of rising construction costs and inflation. From an initial price tag of $36.6 million, the cost to build Harmony has ballooned to $57.5 million.

What's inflation at? 3%?

More like 70% for that builder lol

Eby wrote that a Statistics Canada update last month stated that the largest contributor to inflation in Canada was mortgage rates.

"A rate increase in September is more likely than not going to lead to higher mortgage rates again, directly causing further inflation," he wrote.
Seems like our Premier has a better understanding of inflation than our PM..

No, minister of housing and attorney general.

This whole thing is a political grandstand, if BOC doesnt raise rates he'll look like a hero. If they do, it'll give him somewhere to place blame as to why no one wants to build anymore. He knows he has no actual influence on the BOC, nor should he.

Yea he should just tow Trudeaus line of throwing up his hands? Lol

Love that there’s this idea here of federal politics don’t effect you directly and you should be more concerned with provincial/municipal politics more as they have more bearing on your life

Then when the premier actually makes a statement in an attempt to hold the fed to account

It’s just for show!!!

Ffs..

he's asking the right question. as his "constituent" (we sort of are that as residents of this province) then I'm glad he's doing so. It's the same question I'd like to ask the BOC myself.

i don't think he's gaslighting anybody. Eby is the least political politician in provincial politics (lot of P's) as far as I'm concerned.

I don't get it. People want politicians to stand up for them, and when they do, it means nothing. I can sure as fuck say, as easy as things are for some of the useless ones, being a politician that actually tries to do good is just a futile effort.

Sure he’s a great guy but he has no influence on BOC decisions. It’s literally politics at its worst. A move for political gain with zero impact on the situation.

Why would anyone want to be a politician?

Well, Tiff Macklem has a PhD in Economics from Queens/UoWO... and he's the one in charge of the BoC... I think he knows a few things about Economics! He's been at the BoC since before he even graduated, so what he does not know much about is Politics.

I think that's probably a good thing.

The problem we see here in BC is that BC's real estate industry doesn't act like any other real estate in the entire country. It also doesn't react the same either. Even Toronto had a pretty big drop after interest rates went up, but BC prices actually increased in that same time.

There's no one size fits all policy for the country, tough position to be in as a policy maker trying to keep everyone happy (impossible).

No, not muncipal, but annual salary of a federal MP is ~$186K, even a backbencher gets that, you just have to get elected, which really doesn't have a massive barrier to it.

The biggest benefit of being a politician (or high ranking civil servant) is the pension.

That being said, I'd rather be the Chief Administrative Officer (aka City Manager) of a decent sized municipality. $300k - $400k per year. You have more power/say than a mayor or council. And you get the municipal pension.

BC Public Sector Salaries

Department GMs or Heads or whatever you want to call them at CoV, CoB, Metro Vancouver all earn over $200k a year.

Apparently those city manager roles take over 20 - 30 years of experience to get into.

I want that money now vs 50 years old
