Anything drive involving New West feels like it sucks. Ages ago on co-op I commuted from Coquitlam to Richmond x 4 months. Columbia-Front-Queensborough-91 in rush hour was enough for me to ask my manager if I could switch to 10 am-6 pm office hours instead.

what's wrong with food choices in burnaby?
yall dont like korean restaurants in lougheed? lol

not as many choices as rmd but metro and brentwood are more than fine?

Hondaracer 12-22-2023 11:07 AM

I dunno even along Kingsway by metro it’s pretty meh.. or at least to me, there’s lots of unknown Asian spots I have no clue what they are so scared to venture in lol

Chong Qing still got a decent lunch special $15.xx for soup, main and tea, hits the spot

if the place is full/line up, you know it's good, or cheap, or both.

At least you aren't at Burke Mountain. That shit is stupid far. It takes them 15mins to get to Coquitlam Center. It's around 40mins for me to get to just Coquitlam Center from East Van.

I'm not a huge fan of living in Fraserview though because of how isolated it feels sometimes. You would ask wtf are you high about you live in Vancouver! But hear me out. It's super easy to get to Richmond and DT, but that's about it. The best spot to actually live in terms of being able to access everything is actually South Burnaby. You trade off an extra 5-10 mins to get to Richmond and DT, but you are easily 10mins closer to the highway which opens up Coquitlam and the North Shore for hang outs and activities.

North BBY > South BBY

I say North Burnaby, between Willingdon to Kensington (West to East) and Lougheed to Hastings (South to North) is ideally located to be central, have good food (Italian, Japanese, Korean for sure). Just missing Chinese food/Chinese BBQ but now we have Bonafide in Brentwood which is quite good.

The odd time it's neither though lol. There's always the odd shit place that survives and thrives purely because of location. There have been plenty of Chinese HK Style cafes that thrive because the next closest spot isn't really that close. Oscars in East Van was a good example before I even know people who admit it's avg at best but only go because the next closets option is a lot farther.

The cheap stuff is plentiful in Burnaby but the good stuff is rare. I'm trying to find a nice place with a private room for my birthday and all there really is is Atlas Steak & Fish at the casino whereas in downtown Van there's tonnes of options. I don't even need something the quality of the fancy stuff like Cioppino's or Miku etc.

I'd just like to go to a nice place once in a while and it's basically just STEM in Burnaby. The rest are pretty meh for good dining.

Badhobz 12-22-2023 04:08 PM

uhh i guess that grand neptune in burnaby is okay. Can always go to uncle willys for the finest dinning of my childhood.

GS8 12-22-2023 06:53 PM

So almost 2 weeks ago around 9:30pm, my condo's fire alarm goes off. By the time I got down to the lobby, the fire dept was already there and looking at the switch panel in the lobby. They traced it to the roof. Eventually they came back down and said the generator on the roof triggered a false reading which set the alarm off.

When the alarm goes off, the elevators automatically respond by returning to ground level. Unfortunately, one of them went down to P1 instead. After realizing that no one was trapped in the elevator, it was determined soon after that the elevator is just fucked and the elevator hasn't been fixed since. A note went out saying that the parts required are no longer manufactured. This is the 2nd time this year that elevator broke and needed a part replaced that was obsolete.

Coincidentally, the touchscreen intercom system that guests use to access the building broke as well (at least 2 months ago) and still hasn't been repaired due to that system no longer being made.

My building is only 6 years old so it seems like given how there are so many inner working systems in a condo, kind of like a central nervous system, it feels like planned obsolesces is shockingly bad?

underscore 12-22-2023 07:54 PM

Unless somebody scored a deal on equipment that was EOL that sounds like a pretty ridiculously short support period for industrial equipment.

back when i was doing projects been fucked over by this, builder finding stuff meeting specs that i assume they got the clearance deal on (why else would you fuck an owner/client over once job is done). really did not like the short sightedness of this matter of thinking, the builder did regular work with us.

it was for certain finishes, fixed in place appliances, and security system parts/equipment. disappointing really for the short sightedness from a business perspective

I actually wanted to say Dollarton <-> Belcarra/Ioco via tunnel, but that's political suicide for anyone in office (and $$$).

Someone here needs to go offer him 10k$, a handjob from one of those greasy kingsway "massage" parlors. (Maybe up the offer to 4 hands instead of 2) Then make a thread on here fixing/rebuilding it, then tracking it :O

Offtopic: Theres an NSX on thermal drive, its been sitting there since 2010 at minimum, dude never drives it, just sits in his driveway. Along with 4-5 other cars. I tried to buy it off him years back, but seems like he is just one of those guys that would rather let it rot in the driveway than use as intended

Good area. They recently finished construction and made it so much better for the large flow of traffic. Still bad, but better than before.

Apparently crime is on the uptick in the area. Someone attempted to break-in yesterday around 9AM. Cops said it's an ongoing case.

RabidRat 12-24-2023 01:05 AM

Wth at 9am?! That's bold.

Get anything on camera?
