i had a wallet file on the drive, but i've looked through all my hard drives like 2-3 times since then trying to find any trace of it and it appears to be gone.

Yeah I just looked at this chart on this site and kind of did a "eyeball extrapolation" lol: https://wowa.ca/canada-mortgage-rates-history

lowside67 04-26-2024 10:08 AM

BMO Economics' latest forecast for interest rates just dropped a few minutes ago.

TL;DR for overnight rate:

CAN: first cut still expected in June 2024 (market odds are approx 50-50 on this), next cut pushed from July to September,
US: first cut pushed from July to September

It is also worth noting that the forecast for the Canada 10-year bond (this is a figure that has a good relationship with 5-year fixed mortgage rates in Canada) is now 0.20% higher for Q2/2024 than Q1 and the forecast for the end of 2024, and all of 2025 is only about 0.20% lower than today.

I don't know if Canada would lower rates before US Fed will. Cuts have been talked about for a long time and various markets moved in anticipation of cuts a few times but it never happened.

JDMDreams 04-26-2024 11:46 AM

Canada is fucked if they do, fucked if they don't, I was reading if they drop early it will make CAD drop even more, therefore making imports more expensive and drive up inflation more. But then if they keep rates high the worse the recession is gonna get. Cuz there's already no investments in Canada being made = worse productivity, worse GDP, we all become poorer. Inflation still stays high due to devaluing of our currency, cuz returns are garbage.

when a 4 dollar "game day" big mac is considered a saving, the economy is still fucked.

Wages haven't moved up at all.

I had a great example of this that seemed like such a slap in the face.

So when I was on the ferry a couple weeks ago their TV screens were advertising “great careers with BC ferries wages starting from $20.80 to $27.90”

Then of course, not on the same screen, but on screens around the cafeterias they were advertising a chicken strip meal for $21

So with your “great” new career at BC Ferries, you have to work more than an hour to afford one of the cheapest meals they sell.

What the fuck.

Badhobz 04-26-2024 12:27 PM

no its pretty fucked up for everything.

i just bought a jug of milk and it was 9.98 for organic. 6.80 for non organic. Didnt these things used to cost 3-4 dollars?

Corolla and Civics that were 20k-25k are now 30-35k

Not to mention the rent around here. I don't know how any of these kids are gonna live.... no wonder they stabbing and shooting. Id be just as depressed and hopeless.

I hate to say it, but I'm pretty sure we are the last generation where the "American" / "Canadian" dream was a possibility. Its all god damn down hill from here.... western values, the economy, our freedoms, everything seems to be slowly erroding away.

Traum 04-26-2024 12:42 PM

You're forgetting the BCF staff discount for meals on the ferry.

JDMDreams 04-26-2024 01:15 PM

If you work for bc ferry, you can buy a place in like Nanaimo for like $400,000 on your $20 salary and live like a king. ??? Profit so technically it's do able. It's just our dumbasses that decide the wet ass rainy muddy mountains is worth $2000000

They absolutely 100% will cut before the US. They will try to not end up more than a couple steps out of sync, to protect the currency, but it is all but a certainty there will be more cuts and sooner in Canada than in the US because things are relatively much worse here for businesses and consumers.

In Amar's defense, where he's from, maybe it's normal for them to have 3 people in one room. I remember seeing my neighbour's tenants playing badminton in the street at midnight and wondering WTF, but hey maybe that's normal where they come from?

Back to your situation, I wouldn't even let 2 people stay in a 1 BR suite. The more people there are, the more wear and tear, garbage, headache in general, etc. It's not worth it!

But hey, some RS member thinks 3+ people in a 1BR suite is perfectly acceptable... :troll:

Hondaracer 04-27-2024 10:47 AM

Yea ideally a single person. I feel like I’m once again asking below market rate ($2000 all inclusive) however, I can’t bring myself to ask $2300+ for this suite, I just can’t. It makes me feel dirty.

We’ve had a few referrals from neighbours and friends so those obviously take priority given there’s some accountability.

Some people are crazy though and obviously desperate, but I think some of these people have to reevaluate their situation.. I’ve had a few people along the lines of “we are a husband and wife with a 5 year old, 13 year old, 15 year old (who lives with us from time to time)

Sorry to say, but Vancouver is probably over your head at this point.

I feel like vancouver is isolated from a slowdown so far. Restaurants busy, people still lining up for the trendy new place, detached houses selling over asking.although Condo presales and car sales slowed down a little

Where the hell do you ship where regular milk is $6.80 :lawl:

They're hovering around the $5.90 to $6.10 range at regular big chains.

And yes at one point they were price around the mid to low 5's, and before that the high 4's for homogenized milk
