Some ppl eat the ambiance and vibe and the crowd. Sounds like that place literally sells themselves as long as they don't fuck it up.

Yeah I know, I get that. But I'm also not down with that.
Making excellent food is neither hard nor more expensive. You just need to give the slightest fuck.
Use not garbage and season it and it's like a top 5% restaurant in this culinary wasteland.

Fucking love Red Wagon.

Manic! 06-15-2024 10:03 AM

The big attraction for the dingy dock is the boat ride. It was sold in 2004 for 1.3 mill. In 2019 it was listed for 2.6 mill. Someone should email the real estate agent and try to get the financial info.

I can't imagine anyone wanting to own a restaurant or bar. Everyone I know who does is worked to death and they don't recommend it. But I guess all entrepreneurs have to bust their ass.

Isn't that how it is for most small business owners? You pay your landlord, you staff, your supplies, etc. everybody else first, and you pay yourself last. And then you put in the insane amount of hours into it -- and it will gladly take up as much of your time as you allow yourself to give.

You mean that spot on Beaty where Asians line up for 30-40 mins on a daily basis to take pictures of mediocre pancakes and bennies? :lol

All business owners work to death. Nothing new. I thought about it but I care about my sanity more than money.

Terreeeebleh
Big = value to some people.

I think restaurant owner is the worst of the entrepreneurs though. Mainly because operating hours are the most grueling and it's easy to justify working because it saves the business money as you don't have to pay/hire another staffer.

Manic! 06-15-2024 03:42 PM

Restaurants/pubs are some of the most glamorous businesses to own but also the most difficult to run. You also just can't hire a bunch of people to run your business.

hud 91gt 06-15-2024 04:19 PM

What’s this Asian place?

My fav is still Jam. But that’s from Victoria, where all great breakfast’ come from. I just noticed there is a jam on Beaty street too…. And they have large breakfasts… what have I got myself into. lol.

EvoFire 06-15-2024 05:12 PM

The lineup at Jam on Beatty is insane, would not recommend

JDMDreams 06-15-2024 05:13 PM

I've always wondered what Bons is like. I'm too scared to even step foot in that joint.. lol

What is the best cheap greasy spoon breakfast diner around? Parkcrest? Fraser Park?

sonick 06-15-2024 08:41 PM

It's been a long time since I've been but in Vancouver for legit diner vibes (not "uplevel" hipster diner vibes) I remember liking Argo Cafe in Mt Pleasant and Deacons Corner in Railtown.

Moving out to Tri Cities I've discovered Coquitlam Grill and it's been a fav of mine almost immediately.

Razor Ramon HG 06-15-2024 09:51 PM

Bons for something cheap and dirty?

EvoFire 06-15-2024 09:52 PM

It's dirty alright.

Mikoyan 06-15-2024 10:40 PM

Northern Cafe on East Kent Ave S is pretty good. I do like the burgers there more though.

Not gonna win any awards for best, but often overlooked is Golden Coin in Richmond. Like stepping into a time-machine back into the 90's if thats your thing.

mikemhg 06-16-2024 10:22 AM

Outside of Red Wagon, Yolks is another one of my favorites.

Hud 91gt I was referring to the spot you mentioned, Jam :lol

Wildly overrated. Pancakes and eggs are hard to fuck up, and a lot of places do them well in Vancouver.

You'll never find me lining up an hour for scrambled eggs.
